Some or many units make use of Tactile switches in the control panel of their units.. These become intermittent and noisy after a time. They need to be replaced. You volume issue may be caused by that type of problem in that the one press of a dirty switch might be sending several pulses to the processor signaling many presses. This is what I suspect- it is due to have the switches replaced afer 10 years but the unit will need to come apart and new switches obtained. DigiKey Electronics most likely has new ones of the types you will need. This is a job for a Technician who is able to remove and replace Tact switches in a PCB.
You may be able to obtain a used working power supply sub-board for this model from various secondhand stores, eBay (as a complete combo with a different fault or working), resellers, or you can try getting a refurbished one somewhere. As for Comet, they are no help to you - get a second opinion from Panasonic directly - see if they can exchange the board for you - worth asking them.
If however, you fail completely, and cannot get a board anywhere, or even the old one repaired (which isn't economical), you may need to consider replacing the whole unit - but only as a last resort (the unit is a 2004 model so it's over 6 years old.
The impeller and or bearings are seized. You may have to force the impeller loose (breaking it to get the unit apart). See if you can obtain the bearings and impeller and shaft seal before attempting the overhaul. Be aware that the hardware attaching the motor to the pump housing may need lubrication before attempting to remove.
it possible to replace the defective as follow:
1- take out the unit
2- remove the top cover
3- try to take out the wires from there connections and note each color to witch connection
4- loose bolt of indoor blower to the shaft
5- open the bolt of the condenser fan to the other end of motor shaft and take out the fan
6- open the fixation nuts or bolts of the motor then slide it outside.
7 replace as take care about witch side of shaft is for blower or fan.
Probably the contactor, they have a coil that sometimes buzzes, after the contacts become pitted and no loger pull together like they are supposed to. It could also be a voltage problem from the transformer that is causing it, but I would bet on the contactor. Get it fixed quickly as a voltage drop across the contactor can be the demise of you compressor!
Unit is old enough that the laser pickup may be worn out. Not an uncommon problem with older disc players. You may try to obtain the laser pickup yourself at someplace like MCM eletctronics
