Uniden DECT 6.0 Cordless Phone ID Logo
Anonymous Posted on Mar 01, 2011

Yesterday afternoon both handset 1 and handset 2 completely died. I have handset 3 still working. I tried unplugging the unit from the wall on both sets, and I have also taken the batteries out and put them back in. I bought handset one with answering machine Jan. 6th, 2011. My other two old Uniden phones died shortly after so I ordered two more handsets from Uniden. They're all DECT 6.0 cordless handsets. I tried calling the 800 number in the manual and could not talk to a person. Very irritating. I hope you can help me. I can't afford new telephones every other month.

You need to replace the rechargable batteries. They are quite expensive, $30.00 each, but thats likely why they are dead.

Why not confirm by switching the batteries between handset 3 and handset 1 or 2? If mainlineb is right, any of the three handsets can be made to work with the battery from handset 3, and any of the three will be dead with the battery from either 1 or 2. If not, the problem isn't the batteries, at least not exclusively.

Phone displays a message saying no link to base when it is closer to the base?

Hi,

Following may be the cause for getting no link to the base.

1. The handset has lost communication with the base unit.Move closer to the base unit, and try again.

2. Confirm that the base unit’s AC adaptor is plugged in.

3. Raise the base unit antenna.

4The handset’s registration may have been cancelled .Re-register the handset.

To Register, follow the below steps.

Headset: Press MENU and then press ‘0’ ‘0’

Base unit: Press and hold HANDSET LOCATOR until the CHARGE indicator flashes.

(After the CHARGE indicator starts flashing, the rest of the procedure
must be completed within 1 minute.)

Handset: Press OK, and then wait until the handset beeps.

Your handset is registered to Base unit.

How do I deregister my handsets on my VTech 2656

To be able to register your replacement handset, you must de-register all the handsets from the VT2656 base unit.

Follow the steps below to de-register your handset(s) from the VT2656 base:

1. Take out the handset that sits on the base.
2. Unplug power from the base.
3. Hold down PAGE while reconnecting power. When the In Use light blinks, release the PAGE key.
4. Hold down PAGE key for 5 seconds. When the In Use light begins to flash, release the PAGE key.
5. The handset charging light will blink 5 times. Within 5 seconds from when it stops blinking, press PAGE once.

You must register the handset(s) by following the steps below:

1. After charging the handset, remove it from the cradle, the LCD display will read "SEARCHING FOR BASE".
2. Press "NEW" and then enter the 15-digit Base ID code, located on the underside of the VT2656 base unit.
3. Press "OK". The handset will display "PLEASE WAIT!!".
4. Wait approximately 15 seconds. The handset will display "FOUND BASE". If the handset displays "BASE BUSY TRY LATER", this indicates that the system is in use. Wait until the base unit is in the idle (on hook) mode and repeat steps 2-4.

Can not rec a dial tone, phone states no link to base move closer

If “No link to base. Move closer to base, try again.” is displayed
even when using the handset near the base unit, the handset may have lost communication with the base unit. You need to re-register the handset to the base unit.
• Make sure the base unit is not being used.
• Have both handsets and base unit nearby during registration.
• Follow steps 1–3 listed below. You have about 1 minute to complete them.
• Confirm the extension number of the handset which has lost the communication by placing the handset on the base unit or charger.
If you re-register the handset using the other handset’s extension number, the other handset will not function.
• If the handset beeps 3 times and “Error!!” is displayed, an error occurred. Try again from step 1.
• You can stop registration by pressing [OFF] on the handset, and pressing [LOCATOR/INTERCOM] on the base unit.

1 Base unit: Press and hold [LOCATOR/INTERCOM] until a beep sounds.
• The CHARGE indicator flashes.

2 Base unit: Press the extension number [1] (handset symbol 1 ) or [2] (handset symbol 2) of the
handset which has lost the communication.

3 Handset: Press and hold [FLASH/CALL WAIT] until “Handset Registering” is displayed.
• When registration is complete, a beep sounds from the handset and the display shows the number.
• Wait for 20 seconds after registration is complete while the handset establishes communication with the base unit.

• If the handset beeps 3 times and “Error!!” is displayed, an error occurred. Try again from step 1.
• You can stop registration by pressing [OFF] on the handset, and pressing [LOCATOR/INTERCOM] on the base unit.

My landline phone dialtone I get a beep, beep, beep before dialtone

I had the same problem. To fix it, I unplugged the base from the wall, and the battery from the handset, left it all unplugged for 30 seconds, and then replugged everything back in. It works fine now.

Just bought an additional handset for GE 27951 expandable 6.0 DECT Cordless. I press and hold the Page button for 5 seconds but the new handset will not register. Error keeps occurring "no base."

This exact thing happened to me. Same model number. No matter what I did, the new handsets would not register.

The solution? Reset the entire system:
1. On the BASE - Unplug from wall both power and phone line. Unplug battery from base handset.
2. ON the Extension phone - unplug from wall and unplug battery from handset.
3. Wait AT LEAST 5 minutes.
4. Plug back in BASE power.
5. Plug back in BASE phone line.
6. Plug back in EXTENSION handset battery. Don't plug in BASE handset yet.
7. Follow steps to program EXTENSION. When successful:
8. Plug back in BASE handset battery.

VTech 5.8 mhz won't work

I found a solution that fixed this problem (at least for me). On the vtech site they said to unplug the base unit for at least 5 minutes. Previously, I had only unplugged the base unit for a few seconds. This time, I left it unplugged for about 10 minutes or so and when I plugged it back in, everything was working fine. Apparently there is some sort of capacitor that must discharge long enough to completely remove power from the circuitry.

Good luck and I hope this works for you!

Lost comunication

I solved this problem with a RESET of the handset. Instructions from the Philips website: Please perform a reset of your device. You will not loose your recorded data (phonebook and personal settings are being kept). 1. Unplug the mains of the base station. 2. Remove one of the batteries of each handset. 3. Put the batteries back in and re-plug the mains of the base station.
