My Sony mini hifi component system is going berserk!! 2 problems: 1- CD system skips tracks and on playing on repeat song, the song skips certain times and jumps ahead of the track. 2- Tape system plays without having a tape inside, and if there is, it plays and stops, then plays and stops then, well you guessed it!! Plays and stops... :( Please advise. Thanks

Hello, your home theatre system is from the year 2003. Maybe a cleaning the optical can solve the problem. There are cleaning CD kits on the market, but better option is if a pro does it (the cleaning) for you. If you need more assistance please advice. Arpi

The CD lens may need cleaning.
Try a 'wet' CD lens cleaner.
The laser PU may be low emision.

The deck needs a good cleaning. Try using a brand new tape and run it on playback for 20 min or so. You could try using a cleaning tape, but many of them are abrasive. If this doesn't work, you need a deck re-alignment which will cost more than your set is worth.

I got a free one of these from my work...well that is because it was having the same problem and they didn't want to mess with it haha. Sooo...I brought it home..thinking i could just buy a cd cleaner kit and clean the dirty lens..which is what normally causes these problems. To my dismay this didn't work (later found that the lens is a good half inch away from the disc)..so i decided to open the bad boy up (hey I got it for free...no harm crackin it open :-) ) After hitting the lens with a can of air..I tried again...no go. And just so you all know...this player runs vertically..not horizontally. I want to know how does the player read? the lens in stationary. All other players i have seen the lens moves up and down. I'm thinking it might have something to do with that. I gave up on cleaning it and started doing some searches..this was the only forum that was somewhat helpful. I agree with Silverscreen. When i watch the cd's playing the disc wobbles SLIGHTLY up and down. I think the rear stand-alone wheel is a bit too loose. ..The amount it wobbles is hardly noticed but is the only thing i see out of the ordinary.
