Hello,

This laptop will accept any USB harddisk as it does have USB ports.

I would recommend a 500GB personally as this is the most cost effective and most users are not likely to need 1TB unless using your laptop as a media center or video/music editing platform.

To further answer your question. The usable capacity of the 1TB hard disk once formatted for use by windows will be around 950Gb-990GB

Compaq presario b1900 fails to give output to monitor. If output comes out it gives blue screen and shuts down. If you switch on again the fan and disk do run but no output to screen. An external monitor...

Hi,
That blue screen and shut down, means a problem on both OS and Hardisk.
If you got any hardisk for that laptop. try it and am sure it will work.
The faint beep means a good memory card.

Hope that helps!

Have a compact persiro f700 and am getting a message that states that SMART disk failure and windows will not load and cannot boot computer into safe mode Please Advise on what to do next?????

Hi,
You could open the bios set up to check the hardisk and memory card, see if it is being read by the board.
Try to set your boot sequence to "default option" and save the changes. reboot again afterwards.
If there is a rebooting, but still can not read the hardisk, it means, that is a hardware breakdown, mainly the hardisk itself. Try to replace the HD( hardisk) if you have any spare ones, just to check the system.

Your local computer shop can assess it and tell you what causes the problem. we are just advising you if you could repair it by yourself and my pointers to what you are going to repair in your laptop.
Hope that helps you out.
Thanks for using FixYa!

Yes you can use an external HDD to extend your current HDD. If by extend you mean use the external HDD for storage and such.
However if you wanted to literally extend your current HDD by creating a single partition for both HDDs then it could be extremely problematic because the external HDD will be connected with an USB cable. If you were to accidentally unplug the usb cable then your whole system would crash.

Boot device not found Please instal l an operating sistem on your hard disk. Hard Disk - (3FO) F2 Sistem Diagnostics Foe more information, please visit: www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup

please go to the bios setup by pressing F2. then check your sata hardisk if detected. if not, remove the sata hardisk and use it as external by using external sata case adapter. then plug to the other pc and check if spinning or detected by another pc. once not detected or spinning change your sata hardisk. but if detected, there is a problem on your dv6000Z notebook.

Hardisk have difrent amount

Because Compaq has a hidden partition on you're C:\
Stored in that hidden partition is Compaq's restore drivers & software. If & when you need to run the restore CD on the Compaq, the restore CD enter's that partition & uses the software to help in the process of restoring the C:\ drive to factory settings. (This is normal for most Compaqs).

External Segate 200 GB SATA Hardisk (USB 2.0 connection to PC)

I appears the volume may have been corrupted. YOu should run data recovery on the drive if you need any of the content. If not reformatting the drive, should restore it. If the contents are not important, or you have it backed up, go ahead and connect it to the MACINTOSH and format it for MS-DOS.

Unless it is physically damaged ( clicking, beeping, knocking ) it shoud be usable.

Hope this helps.
