Your memory is probably locked (write protected), There is a switch on the back of the memory card. simply switch it in the opposite direction to unlock it.

Remove the memory card from the camera, look along the one edge, you will see a small switch, slide it towards the contacts this will unlock the card. the switch that is farthest from the contacts is in the locked position to prevent deletion of photo's. Now if the switch is already in the unlocked position slide it back and forth to reset the card.
Formatting in the camera should have worked. Make sure the slide switch on the side of the card is in the unlocked position. With most cameras, when you bring up a picture and press the delete button, it gives you the option to delete that one picture or all of them. Have you tried that?

The key means that the picture is locked so you can not erase by accident. You need to remove the key be for you can erase the pic. If you have the manual it will tell you how. if not get me the model of camera and I will get you a manual.

If your pic is in the locked mode (Green Key Icon). Bring up picture. Press menu. Press (Playback Menu) and hit OK. Press OK again and it should bring up the pic with option of off or on. Hit off to unlock and you should be able to delete the pic.
As per the last persons solution the key icon does indicate you have locked the photo. First select the photo you want to delete, press menu, select playback menu, the key icon appears, press the weird shaped arrow button to the right of the OK; phot unlocks and allows to delete!!
