Occasionally after flushing ,water continues to trickle slightly in toilet bowl. Have changed flapper twice. Wondering if the seat that the flapper sits on is worn or something. It looks ok. Have a one piece Eljer Can that piece be replaced

Look inside the tank under the lid, it sounds like the flapper that lets the water into the bowl is getting hung up on something when you flush. It could be the flushing lever. This would cause the flapper to stay open letting water to just pour into the open sewer line. It should be a simple fix. Just see what is binding the flapper & make an adjustment.

The flapper at the bottom of the tank is leaking and needs replacement.

Thus if the tank is continuing to drain down through the bowl into the sewer line, the rubber flapper is not seating properly with the flush. These become worn and torn and are easily replaced. Or, even with a new one installed, sometimes they are not adjusted properly to create the appropriate balance between play and pull. Play being the upward connection to the flush handle and pull being the downward draw with the gravity flow of the water. Too much play it won't actually flush or lift properly. Too much pull it does not seat tightly or won't lift up long enough to allow enough water to flow through to flush the toilet...as engineered by the geniuses who designed the toilet. A simple adjustment of the chain links attaching the flapper to the flush handle and perhaps a side to side turn of the cuff so the flapper is aligned to seat properly as it drops should be sufficient. And test, test, test, test, and test again until you're absolutely sure you've got it adjusted correctly. One or two flushes is not sufficient!

If there is a continual leak in to the toilet bowl you will likely need to replace the flush valve or the toilet flapper.

As a first step try try cleaning the sealing surface of the flush valve to se if the flapper will seat and make a seal.

If this does not work and the flapper is visibly detioriated and breaking down shut off the water supply, remove the toilet flapper and visit your local plumbing supply store to purchase a suitable replacement. Install the new flapper, turn on water supply.

Although less likely, if the sealing surface of the flush valve is damaged or detioriated proceed with replacement of the flush valve. Again turn off water supply and follow the instructions set out here:

If there is not a leak in to the toilet bowl and the water flow does not shut off completely, then water is flowing through the fill valve and the overflow pipe and you may need to adjust the float and float rod to allow clsoure of the fill valve. See here:

You say water is leaking out of the bowl?

Toilets have 2 parts:
1) Tank: where water is stored for the flush and is sealed with a flapper.
2) Bowl: where water flushes down.

a) If tank is leaking water, then flapper is suspect. Replace flapper and see if that works.
Lift up flapper and run finger around rim to see if there is a rough spot that would indicate flush valve is defective, and needs replacement.

b) If bowl is leaking, that is very unusual and would indicate a crack in the porcelain.

If installer sold you the toilet, it is his responsibility to make good on product.

Toilet runs continuously or doesn't flush adequately

Jiggling the handle might work for a while, but if your toilet is always running or doesn't flush adequately, you need to perform these simple fixes that usually can tame a noisy, inefficient toilet.

Check the Chain

The chain attached to the rubber flapper often becomes loose, causing incomplete flushing and/or continuous running. To fix it, remove links from the chain using needle-nosed pliers until it's tight.

Check Water Level

Improper water levels can also cause problems with your toilet. This can be fixed by adjusting the ball ****, which is located next to the overflow pipe, the open tube to the right of the handle. Adjust the ball **** so the water comes to ½ " below the overflow pipe.

Clean the Surface of the Flush Valve

A continuously running toilet can also be the result of a faulty flush valve. Because the valve is made of rubber, it can decompose or warp allowing water to escape from the tank into the bowl. Clean the sealing surface to see if this will improve the seal. If too decomposed or warped the valve may need to be replaced.

Replace the Flapper

Remove old flapper and replace with a suitable replacement. Attach the flapper to the overflow pipe inside the bowl. Then attach the lever chain from the flapper to the handle lever making sure the chain is taut.

Change the flapper with a generic one that will fit that toilet... the OEM flapper is **** and it does not allow for a good flush either...

As long as there is no water leaking from the tank to bowl connection, you are OK. You would know if it was leaking here, because you would have water dripping out onto the floor.

Verify that the water level in your tank is below the top of your new flush valve's overflow tube. If the water level comes to the top, it will overflow into the toilet bowl. This can be easily fixed with an adjustment to the fill valve.

If the water is not overflowing into this tube, then the only way you can lose water is through the flapper. You said you changed the flush valve, which would have come with a new flapper attached to it, but maybe buy a new flapper and see what happens???
