I just bought a Hoover Windtunnel upright with bag, #U6485100. When installing the handle there was tape over the top with instructions do no remove until assembled.
After assembling (screwing in the handle), removed the tap and the on/off button was not working. I removed the handle and was able to operate the vaccum without the handle. Now I have tried several times to re-assemble the handle and the on/off button is not starting the machine.
If you have any suggestions please let me know.

Be sure the on/off button and the power drive button are both in the OFF position before installing the handle. The actual switch inside must also be in the OFF position.

Hey. I believe you will need to replace the main PCB board too. My new handle was sent with a new PCB board. However, I tried just replacing the handle first and it acted the same way you describe. Once I changed the PCB board it worked fine. Hope this helps.

The cable is user replaceable, but you will need to contact Hoover, or a parts center, to purchase the cable. You will remove the Upper Handle by removing the black screws at the base of the upper handle fit to lower handle (on back).
You will also have to remove the hood to loosen the one screw that holds the cable to the powerdrive gearbox.
Hi there SmartAlec from NelsonVacuums.com.au here. I have a U6445 but i suspect there is little difference. Mine has only 2 screws as well and it also was very stiff. After a bit of medium pressure and a twist side to side mine came off.
If it goes in just at the bottom of the handle, take off the handle, then remove the tool holder, then you can replace the cord. If it goes in near the bottom, then you will have to remove the motor cover and light to get to the connecting wires.
