HI, can you tell me the procedure for 'cleaning the ink heads' on my EPSON STYLUS DX4400, Please. thank you, MARK

  1. Open the Printers or Printers and Faxes folder.
In Windows 7, click Start then Devices and Printers. In other versions of Windows:
    • Click Start > Settings > Printers, or
    • Click Start > Printers, or
    • Click Start > Control Panel then double-click on:
      • Printers, or
      • Printers and Faxes, or
      • Printers and Other Hardware then View Installed Printers.

    • See How to open the Printers or Printers and Faxes folder in Windows in the Related Articles section for detailed instructions.

  2. Right-click on the icon for your printer and select Printing Preferences.

    Example: Windows Vista

  3. This will display the Printing Preferences window.
  4. Click on the Maintenance (or Utility) tab.

  5. Click on Head Cleaning. This will launch the utility.
  6. Click Start and wait for the printer to finish the first cleaning cycle.

caution.gif Caution: Never turn off the printer while the On light is flashing. Doing so may damage the printer.

  7. Click Print Nozzle Check Pattern. This procedure will confirm the effectiveness of the head clean. You can also access the print Nozzle Check option from the Maintenance or Utility menu.

  8. Click Print.

  9. The printer will print a nozzle check. Compare the print out with the next window. If there are gaps, the print out is faint, click Clean, and then Finish when the procedure is complete.

    • If the nozzle check prints correctly (showing no breaks in the pattern), but the text is still broken you may need to run the Print Head Alignment utility - see How do I use the Print Head Alignment utility? for assistance.
  • If the nozzle check is complete, click Finish.
  • If there are gaps or faint print on your printout click Clean.

If gaps are still present, perform another head clean (without printing a nozzle check between the cleans). Once the second clean is complete, power off the printer.
Wait one minute before powering it back on, then print a nozzle check. Compare the printout with the example window (above).
  • If it is complete, click Finish.
  • If there are gaps or faint print on your printout carry out another set of head cleans.
  • We recommend only a maximum of six head cleans.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response. Happy New Year!

Thanks, Joe

How do I print the nozzle check pattern?

Dear Sir,

plz flow this step for solve your probelm

These are the 2 important features for maintenance of your printer.

Nozzle Check

If your printouts are unexpectedly faint or have some missing dots or lines, it means that certain colour ink does not flow out nicely and consistantly. This is when you need to perform a nozzle check. If your nozzle pattern is good, then, your printouts will be good and nice as well. If your nozzle pattern breaks at certain parts, it means you need to clean the print head. Here's how to perform a nozzle check:
1. Click Start

2. Click Control Panel

3. Click Printers and Faxes

4. Right click your printer icon

5. Click Printing Preference

6. Click Maintenance

7. Click Nozzle Check

8. Click Print

9. Click Finish (if the nozzle pattern is perfect) OR

10.Click Clean (if the nozzle pattern breaks at certain places)

The following is the sample of good nozzle pattern and a bad nozzle pattern:

Good nozzle pattern:

good+nozzle+pattern.bmp
Bad nozzle pattern (Head Cleaning needed):

bad+nozzle+pattern.bmp

Head Cleaning

Head cleaning is required when the nozzle pattern is not perfect. Usually, this action is needed when you have printed a lot or you have taken out the cartridge for refilling or for other purposes. Here's how to perform a head cleaning:

1. Click Start

2. Click Control Panel

3. Click Printers and Faxes

4. Right click your printer icon

5. Click Printing Preference

6. Click Maintenance

7. Click Head Cleaning

8. Click Start

9. Click Print Nozzle Patterns (to check the ink flow after cleaning)

PRINTER COLOR PROBLEMS

o.k. I can give you a few tips that may be of assistance.

you need to run a printer alignment page like you do when you put in new cartridges.

unplug your printer plug it back in.

put them back in and then close the door.

It should now prompt you to do a test alignment page.

Also, Another thing to try is to hit file, top left of page, hit print, click properties. color tab.

make sure you are printing high quality on chose different color management options.

FINALLY TRY THIS:

When Printing Becomes Faint or Colors are Incorrect

When printing becomes faint or colors are incorrect, even if ink remains in
the ink tanks, the print head nozzles are probably clogged. Follow the
procedures below to maintain the print head.
Important Before maintaining the print head, check the following;
􀁺 Open the front cover and make sure that the ink tank
contains ink. If it is out of ink, replace it.
􀁺 Ensure that all the orange tape of the ink tank has been
peeled off.
􀁺 Press "PUSH" on the ink tank and ensure that the ink tank
is installed securely.
􀁺 Increase the Print Quality setting in the printer driver

Checking the Print Head Nozzles
If your printouts are faint or have gaps in them, some of the nozzles in the print
head may be clogged or ink may be running low in one or more of the ink
cartridges. Follow the steps below to check the print head nozzles.
1. Load letter-size paper in the sheet feeder.
2. Turn off the NX100 Series.
3. Hold down the y Stop button as you press the P On button to turn the
NX100 Series back on. Hold down both buttons until the P On light begins
to flash, then release the buttons.
Cleaning the Print Head 21
4. Check the nozzle check pattern that prints to see if there are gaps in the lines.
5. If there are no gaps, the print head is clean. If there are gaps or the pattern is
faint, clean the print head as described in the next section.
Cleaning the Print Head
If print quality has declined and the nozzle check pattern indicates clogged
nozzles, you can clean the print head. Print head cleaning uses ink, so clean it only
if necessary.
Note:
You cannot clean the print head if an ink cartridge is expended, and you may not be able
to clean it when a cartridge is low. You must replace the cartridge first (see page 23).
1. Make sure the NX100 Series is on and the B ink light is off.
2. Hold down the y Stop button for three seconds to start the cleaning cycle,
which lasts around one minute.
Caution:
Never turn off the NX100 Series during head cleaning or you may damage it.
3. When the P On light stops flashing, run a nozzle check (as described on
page 20) to verify that the print head is clean.
4. If there are still gaps or lines, or the test patterns are faint, run another
cleaning cycle and check the nozzles again.
Note:
If you don’t see any improvement after cleaning the print head two times, turn off your
NX100 Series and wait at least six hours to let any dried ink soften. Then try cleaning
the print head again. If quality does not improve, one of the ink cartridges may need to
be replaced. If that doesn’t help, contact Epson as described on page 31.
If you do not use your NX100 Series often, it is a good idea to print a few pages at least
once a month to maintain good print quality.
Good Luck and Please rate me.

Cleaning your head might resolve your problem. Perform the below steps to clean the head:

  2. Print head cleaning is performed when you connect the power cord. Your machine may perform print head cleaning periodically to avoid clogging.
