Is it a potentiometer or a switch? Common multispeed fans use a multi-position switch for speed selection. Try contacting the manufacturer for a replacement. If you would satisfied with a single speed fan, you could wire in a regular old toggle switch. Maybe you could scavenge a suitable switch from a junk fan...

Question edited for clarity and correct model name tempura to Tempra.

It is one of the pull chains. If it has two chains, one if Fan On/Off and three speeds and the other chain is Reverse Direction. If it has a third chain, that is Light On/Off.

The lights flicker on and off when powering on

Your Minka Aire is also available on AMAZON...

The trouble you are describing involves YOUR control module INSIDE your fan body... I had a SIMILAR TROUBLE on a CASA BLANCA... had to replace the CONTROL MODULE myself... but for the 13 foot ceiling... and needing to ALSO upgrade the WALL SWITCH (Intelli Touch W32 Wall Control) to match... It was an EASY JOB.

Remember to ground out your hands before touching delicate electronic equipment (or an anti static wrist strap)...!!

Also remember... the REAL PROFESSIONALS always remove power (when possible).

Be SAFE.

The lights suddenly stopped working. It is only about 2 years old. When you turn the switch on they will briefly come on and then go off.

Hello Lisa Gray James,

I had the luxury of having a couple of old Casa Blanca fans in the house when ours went kaput (but the point I will try to make
is quite portable... between MANUFACTURERS.

Typically most wall controlled fans are designed to work over a standard light-switch circuit. the ADDITIONAL functions are accomplish through EACH vendors own proprietary switch-fan interface... (in the Casa Blanca case I am attaching below) they use their "RF" signals from their switch... and the control boards emit audible tone to make the user confident something is working.

I had NOT yet discovered the availability of the replacement unit below... but by swapping the living-room switch with the bedroom switch I was able to prove the trouble to Casa Blanca's 21Z2 control board (inside the fan)

Old style 21Z2: no longer available

Inteli Touch Circuit Board RMM 9901120 or 7801240

is manufacture discontinued (Inteli-Touch & Inteli-Touch II)

but the replacement units (Inteli-Touch 3) will work nicely...
Casa Blanca recommended that BOTH the switch (W32)
and control board should be changed... I complied.

(saved my good W12 switch as a spare)

BUT DO NOT hesitate to call the FAN MAN to discuss your options and needs... it looks like a multi vendor site... and I have also seen them on AMAZON.COM

I have 2 wires plus ground going from switch to fan at fan there are several wires I can not figure out a hook up

if single speed fan you have 3 wires and ground
if 3 speed fan you have 5 wires
if 1 speed 2 wires are are the power and the other one is a capacitor wire at 1.3uF 1.5uF 330v you need to have the wiring chart for the motor or you could work it out with a ohm meter or seek the help of a sparky

Remote Control

I had the same issue. I had to replace the remote control reciever located on the fan and that did the trick.
