You only need to turn it off if you are using program mode. Very nice stat btw. Heres a link to the pdf and I will also explain. http://customer.honeywell.com/techlit/pdf/PackedLit/69-1896EF.pdf Use the system select button so that the heat option is flashing. Look at the bottom of the screen and you will see 7 boxes. First one done and seventh one cancel with all boxes in between blank. Now at the same time hold the 3rd and 5th box (buttons) for approx 5 sec. A new screen will appear with a number sytem staring at 0120 with up or down arrows and 20 with up or down arrows. Push the left up arrow till the left number reads 0530. The right number will read 1 if its on. To turn it off select the down arrow so it reads 0. Then select done and your all set.
We are on a energy savings program with APS. Our electricity bill has been through the roof the past year due to the "Adadptive Intelligent Recovery". Our peak hours stop at 7:00pm and with the recovery mode, it was kicking our AC on a couple hours prior to that time which messed up the schedule we had. Now that it is shut off, our electricity bills will be much better now. Thank you very much.
My situation with my A/C was the same as "fligger3". I have my Honeywell PRO TH4000 Series programmable thermostat set the way I want, but every day at a certain peak time, "Recovery mode" was appearing on my thermostat, and I noticed the temperature on it different, and NOT as I had previously programmed it for. Made me mad!! Now I know why there has been such a fluctuation with my daily kWh usage! The stupid thing had a mind of its own and doing its own thing when it got hotter during peak hours here in hot Texas.. It was coming on and re-setting itself back down a few degrees cooler inside. I can't have it that way, as it affects my electric bill out the roof! I followed the instructions as mentioned here, along with my Owner's manual (trust me, I believe this tech gives a better explanation than the manual does!) and was able to reset the 'Adaptive Intelligent Recovery' to "Conventional mode". I have to wonder why the folks who make these devices want to 'default' to modes that are somehow unhelpful, or even detrimental to what we are attempting to do in the first place - and that's being thrifty and trying to save on our electric bills. It's like they're all in bed together and we can't win for losing here! Many thanks very much for teaching us how to take it into our own hands and correct the situation. Bless ya!
