Lg tromm I have this LG Tromm for 5 1/2 years and out of waranty. I have the same problem when it spin you hear the grinding noise and smells like burning metal. Called the LG service and they told me that I might spend around $450.00 for parts and labor. So I decided to fix it my self and found out that the bearing in the outer drum is already worn out that causes to loosen the alignment of the motor assembly.The disalignment causes the magnet in the rotor assembly to grained to the stator until one of the magnet crack and break that causes the motor not to run. I tried to take off the bearing out of the outer drum to change it but I need a guide to do this. Please advise. You can get the parts from this site.
The bearing is pressed in in the factory and is only available as a rear tub assembly. They claim to have extremely tight tolerances to prevent wear and unbalance. Check your owner's manual there may be an extended warranty on the rear half of the tub.

if the machine fails to spin and makes noise there are thee things to check .if it fails to drain the water check if something is stuck on the drain pump no 2 turn the drum with your hand and check if the drum is moving freely if not something is stuck between the drum and the housing if the bearings are faulty the machine spins but makes alot of noise towards the end of the cycle i hope this will help you.
if the bearing are going it will sound like a plain taking off grinding banging them you will end up with grease all over your clothes was told from an engineer once never put you m/c on any thing over 900 rpm spin speed as the bearings ar not designed to go any faster i have a hotpoint and its over 12 year old still sounds like new and never had a problem with it hope this help
I had exactly the same symptom...grinding noise only during high speed spin cycle.
I took the top and back panels off to see how the drain hoses etc. connected. Not wanting to take it apart further, I eventually just took the washing machine outside (I knew I was going to be dealing with water!), pulled the debris catcher front side bottom, and let rip with a garden hose inside the drum with the catcher out (leaving an open drain that could flow unimpeded).
Water flowed quickly out of the open drain, and lo and behold, a small drill bit came out with the water flow. This bit, presumably had gotten through the drum grating, and was resting on the bottom of the housing, scraping and grinding when the drum was spinning.
It is a POS dryer, we have the same one. My suggestion get another dryer. We vacuumed it all out (don't you have a problem with the lint catcher?) Then it started loud pounding noise, which a lot of people seem to have the same problem, then our sensor went out and we had to dry the clothes 5-10 x's...now crack in stainless steel drum and is chewing up all our expensive clothes!
