I have had a similar error which turned out to be a corrupted memory card. It was replaced under warranty with no questions asked. Causes may be static electricity discharge or a high humidity/temperature combination. Either way get a new card.

When putting a Lexar Multi-Use 16 GB SDHC memory card in my Canon Powershot A540 I get Memory Card Error message as well Card Locked message. Have tried unlocking it by the slide on side of card, is t

It's a lost cause. The A540 works with SD cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and will not work in devices not designed for them. You need to stay with SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

The memory card does not stay inserted into it's slot and the camera shoes a memory card error.

Hi, I'm going to give you a link to a basic user guide.

http://www.google.ca/#hl=en&source=hp&biw=1224&bih=834&q=canon+powershot+s3+is+pdf+manual&aq=0v&aqi=g-v1&aql=&oq=Canon+PowerShot+S3+IS+PDF+Manual&gs_rfai=&fp=6a0673dc5c3f3912

It's a small PDF file which has a diagram on the correct orientation of the SD card and batteries I think the actual owners manual is lacking in these diagrams.
I think though that you are attempting to install the memory card the incorrect way.

Also I'm going to include a great diagram for the SD card locking switch that if in the wrong position won't allow your to format a new card to the camera.

This should solve your problem don't forget to format your card to teh camera before using.

Memory card error

Having gone over a month with no response, I assume it was just a matter of SD versus SDHC cards.

I have a canon powershot sx110is and when i turn it on it will not take any pictures but instead gives the message "memory card error." When I put it to the display mode it says the same message plus...

First see if the camera will work without the memory card installed. Then format the internal memory using the camera's setting as described in the manual.

Then turn OFF the camera and insert the sd card. Turn on and reformat the card too.

Make sure you have NEW batteries or sometimes things go flakey.

Canon powershot s3 is SD card when inserted into camera reads Memory card error..... I purchased a new one, same thing. I have one card that is working, not sure why or for how long, but I am working with...

Either the card is defective or it needs to be formatted again.
Use a SD card reader on a computer.
Right-click on the card and select format.
Then try it in your camera again.
If that doesn't work the card is defective.

If this helps please vote for my solution.

Canon PowerShot SD 630 Digital Elph "Memory Card Error"

Hi,
I'm sorry to tell that PowerShot SD 630 does not support SDHC cards over 2 gig.
If you want the camera to take a card over 2 gig then you are stuck standard SD cards.
The other camera does support the card because it's a higher model.

Regards.

Memory card error

I have the Canon Powershot SD 750. I had the "memory card error" message when I turned on the camera and when I tried to insert the SD card into the computer (or hook the camera up to the computer, etc). Here's how I fixed it. I turned on the camera, clicked on the menu tab, click on the tools tab, scrolled down to format, and clicked OK and it worked. This is probably too siimple and may not help many people with more difficult problems, but it did work for me! If that doesn't work, I'd click on "reset all" and maybe that will work. You will have to reset any info you had (date and time, etc) but it might work. I have no idea about all the different types of Canon Powershot cameras but this worked on mine!
