Not sure if my TV was hit by lighting?? We had a small storm last night w/lighting. This morning when we turned on the TV it came on and stays on BUT the picture was on for only a split second, then the screen goes off as if your turned the TV off, but the power indicator light is still on. There is no sound after the picture goes off. Could the lighting have hurt it or is there another problem? TV is about 6 yrs old. Thank you for you help.

Plug the power cord directly into a wall power outlet, and make sure that the standby light is lit (turn it on/off manually to see if anything changes). If there isn't any light, then it's most likely broken.
If the TV works again, being plugged into the power outlet in the wall, then the problem is with the cable box (i bet you figured that out too).
Is it repairable, well, this question can be answered only after opening the back cover and evaluating the damage. From you side, please connect the TV to a different power outlet where other similar devices are working and see. Then try changing the input device to something that sure works. If it does not work even then, this may need attention by a qualified service technician.
Sadly, only testing of each component can suggest the extent of damage. Many years ago, lighting can in through the window of my living room, hit the TV, blew the knobs off the TV (that date's me), shot into the kitchen and shattered the kitchen counter top. What I want you to take from that is that the course of a power surge is a bit unpredictable. No one can guess how far it got until you find a lamp that works.
