this can be tricky and dangerous if you are not familiar. The cord winder had a metal coil system that spins very fast.Sometime people pull the cord too far out causing the coil to seize. To get to the winder slide off the "Electrolux" slide off[located on the sides of the vacuum] Your best bet is to take it to a vacuum repair shop. Before trying anything take a flat screw driver and puch it in the hole where the cord comes out and push it in,sometimes this fixes the problem sorry I cant tell you more as it is hard to explain the procedure....Please be careful.
These get stuck all the time...I own 2 of these , and I have done this many times...Get a can of WD40 or some type of spray lubricant with the little straw in the nozzle. Try pulling and pushing the cord back inside(don't pull it too hard) while you are spraying the lubricant directly inside where the cord comes out. push the cord back in as if you were going to force all of it back inside the cord winder. You may even have to bump the back of the machine where the cord winder is located. But it will wind back up.If you are worried about getting the lubricant on something that it doesn't need to be on , then take the Vac apart and spray it directly on the the coils of the cord winder..A lot of times, that's all they do in the repair shop when they tell you they replaced the cord winder....
Try standing vacuum on end, then gently tugging and releasing cord. This generally will retract it.
There are many problems that can result in disassembly and reassembly by an untrained person, including shock and fire. For those and other reasons, I don't recommend trying this yourself. Take it to the nearest Aerus Electrolux store for repair.
The back of the vacuum can only be removed by separating the top and bottom portions of the canister. The cord winder will need to be removed and the wires all disconnected. The cordwinder is then taken apart and the cord rewound and set for proper tension for rewinding. If the cord is simply stuck due to having been pulled out too far, this is generally not necessary.
although it might have an internal fuse on this model, I dont think that will be the problem.
The miele cord rewinder has been known to have a small fault in it where the cord winder that actually retracts the cord onto will come apart from the electrical connection in the cord winder itself.
As most of these units have a 5 year warranty anyway, I suggest that you take it to your nearest miele dealer for a repair/replacement on the cord rewinder.
Hi
Not really. It means that the cord has been pulled roughly when its been plugged in and the retracter is getting weaker to hold the cord that has been pulled out. Generally though wipe the entire cord from the end of the machine with a dry cloth and some furniture polish. This will clean the cord and add some resistance to the retractor that could minimise the cord flowing back into the vacuum.
I had the same problem - the power cord for my Hoover Elite Upright (U5507900) was stuck a few inches out and wouldn't go any further. But when I unscrewed the rewinding mechanism, the cord had clearly gotten twisted and partly buried under itself so after some work I was able to free it. Now it seems to be working fine, at least for the moment. Note that I had to use small screwdrivers to unscrew the cord rewinding compartment, like the kind of screwdrivers you use for computer repair. HTH!
JUST LIFT OFF THE TOP HALF. CAREFULLY REACH IN FROM THE LEFT SIDE AND DISCONNECT THE CLEAR PLASTIC HOSE THAT IS ATTACHED TO THE "DIAL" ON TOP OF THE MACHINE. THEN LAY THE TOP HALF OF THE MACHINE TO THE RIGHT. DON'T DISCONNECT ANY WIRES. YOU'LL HAVE TO HAVE A NEW CORD WINDER (LOOK ON E-BAY). THE MOTOR AND CORD WINDER ARE ATTACHED TO EACH OTHER BY WIRES AND CAN BE LIFTED OUT OF THE CANISTER.EVERYTHING YOU DO JUST REMEMBER THAT ALL OF THESE PARTS ARE ATTACHED TO EACH OTHER BY WIRES. THE ONLY WIRES YOU'LL NEED TO DISCONNECT ARE THE ONES ATTACHED TO THE CORD WINDER ASSEMBLY. THEY JUST PULL OFF, NO TOOLS ARE NEEDED.
QUITE FRANKLY THIS IS A ROYAL PAIN AND YOU'LL PROBABLY WISH YOU TOOK IT TO A REPAIR (AERUS/ELECTROLUX) SHOP. IF YOU DECIDE TO DO IT YOUR SELF TAKE PICTURES OF EVERY STEP...'CAUSE YA GOTTA PUT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER.
GOOD LUCK!
