SOURCE: Mac does not recognize...

Haskel, Have you tried a different USB wire? Constantly remove of the cord can wear down the contacts/something is on the contacts? Check that I'll get back to you if I find anything relevant. Good Luck, Tim

SOURCE: The light is white..The computer doesn't seem to

I devised these simple steps that tend to remedy quite a few issues with most portable / external hard drives (though not always)

You may want to skip the format section lower down

A few things to check but assumes USB and Windows for other interfaces / operating systems similar steps may be adapted to suit.

1. Ensure it is connected directly to the computer to a USB 2.0 port not a USB 1.0 port as this can have effects on performance and reliability

2. Use only the cables that came with it NOT one that fits that may have been lying around or is longer. Not all USB cables are equal even though they should be)

3. Do not connect through an external USB HUB unless that hub is USB 2.0 AND has its own power supply.

4. Use ONLY the power supply that came with it if it has an external power supply Don’t use any other unless you know it has both the same voltage and current rating e.g. 12V 500mA anything rated below that would not work properly.

5. Always use the same port for connecting your devices. Some devices do not like being switched about. If switched they may want to install software / drivers again.

If you checked and fixed anything there and still have issues carry on reading.

Go to your control panel and then administrative tools, select Computer Management.
Now select Disk Management and expand the window.
Your drive should be listed here, if not then you need to check your computer hardware has not got any issues before proceeding.
If your drive is listed and says healthy then right click on it an select Properties, click Tools and then Error Checking, Check now, tick the two boxes and then Start.
This will attempt to fix most minor / common errors on the drive. It may also ask you to restart which is fine. Allow it to finish its work or you could corrupt the drive. If all went well you should be able to use it normally again.
If you drive was listed but did NOT say healthy then right click and select Format. Choose NTFS as the file system and do not tick any boxes you do NOT want quick format. Again start and let it do its thing. When it is done restart your computer and you should be good to go.
If you still have problems with the drive you might want to look at other areas.

SOURCE: 1tb simpledrive will beep, click, but not work. No joy.

power source jack/plug might be the problem if it has been bumped about or if it was powered up and running before plugging in to the comp.....
i had the problem of my 1tb ext/hdd no longer being recognized because when i plugged it into my comp, the jack was live and not switched of at the wall. the only way i got it to work was to pull it out of the casing and switched it with the 320 ext/hdd i have as they are they same brand..just diff sizes. going to put the 320 into comp to become master drive as the internal is a measly 40g. i think i had burned out the connector pins on the power jack when it was plugged in live. i hope this is an idea for you to try.

SOURCE: My 1TB SimpleDrive FAT s

Hello,

It sounds like either the enclosure or the drive(s) inside have failed.

If the enclosure has failed and you don't have any crucial files on it that you don't already have elsewhere, contact simpletech for a warranty replacement.

If the enclosure has failed and you DO have important files on it, try having your local PC shop move the hard drive(s) into a new enclosure, if that works you're done, buy the new enclosure.

If the new enclosure fails, your drive(s) are damaged and you will need a pro to help get back your files. If this is the case, reply back with you location(Country, State and City) and I will pass along recommendations for your neck of the woods.

Hope this helps FixYa,

Chris

Why do I get a clicking sound from my external hardrive?

My Seagate 1TB started doing the same thing before it died. My brother managed to get it working again long enough for me to move all of the files to a Toshiba 1TB solid state external drive. A couple of nice features to the Toshiba are that there is no power adapter (powered by the USB), there are no moving parts, and it is very compact. I slid mine into the space under the laptop stand. You might want to back up all of your data to another location just in case yours is getting ready to die.

I have the simple tech 1 tb external hard drive, I updated my mac OS and now my drive can no longer be read or opened???

Apple will recognize a FAT 32 format. Connect the drive to another machine - a PC. Copy your data to this computer, format the drive to FAT32, copy your data back and it chould be accessable to the MAC system again.

I have a SimpleTech SimpleDrive 1TB just got it last month. I went to plug it in and light comes on but I can't find it under computer. How do I find it?

Are you trying to connect using USB or eSata. In either case try connecting the drive with the computer OFF. Boot, then look under MyComputer - Properties - Mangage - Disk Management to see if the drive is recognised.

Hi Would you tell me how long 1tb IOMEGA hard drive formating will take?

It depends on how it is connected to the computer. A drive connected through an eSATA port should be able to format 1TB in just 1 - 2 hours depending on how loaded the system is (background processes/services, other use while it is formatting, etc). If it is connected via USB2.0, you are looking at approximately 6.3 times longer or up to 13 hours.

If you could reach and constantly maintain the theoretical maximum throughput on eSATA, it would only take about 45 minutes.
