I just installed a Honeywell HE 360 Humidifier I purchased at Home depot. I replaced a Aprilaire model 110 . I have a 120v power duplex that is hot with the furnace blower motor, on so I assumed the sail switch is NOT NEEDED to sequence the humidifier with the furnace blower motor. Bottom line when I hook it up, with 2 yellow wires connected to my house low voltage wires to the humidistat.. nothing happens. As a check , I tried a bench test, and touchd the 2 yellow wires ,with the unit plugged into wall outlet , assuming the fan should turn on. It did not. So ,thinking it was a defective unit I removed the unit, and took it back to Home Depot for a even exchange. The new replacement unit (same model 360 since I cut the duct plenum opening for that model) does not work either so I must be missing something in the wiring requirements.. Also interesting is the 2 Red wires on the humidifier are NOT needed per the instructions. Not sure what they are there for , Does anyone out there know what the missing wiring issue is ?

Hello, in order to turn your humidifier on with the furnace the 120 volts coming from your humidifer you must hook it up to a step down transformer, then the transformer will provide 24 volts to you humidistat and solenoid valve. So you need a wire from the HUM on your control board to transformer primary side and a wire from neutral on the board to primary side of transformer. Then you need low voltage wire from secondary side of transformer to humidistat from humidistat to humidifier.

Humidifier will not turn on (no fan, no water flow)

A breakdown diagram of parts etc above.

Shows you the HE360A.
To me it sounds like it is wired incorrectly, the solenoid should NOT get too hot at all. The PDF above shows wiring data.

Connecting an Aprilaire 700M to my HVAC system. I do not have the wiring diagram for the fan control board for the HVAC system. Aprilaire diagram says to wire the 120VAC to 24 VDC transformer to the HVAC...

If you don't have a volt meter, purchase one. I've seen them as low as $20.00 at Sears and even lower at Home Depot and other discount stores. The HUM terminals are most likely low voltage (24v). The "N" is the neutral. Assuming you have confirmed this is low voltage (24v, you will use HUM and "N" terminals. This control sequence is typically to allow for operation of your humidifier only when there is a call for your fan to run. The brown wires coming from your Humidifier are your low voltage circuit. One should be directly wired to "N". The other should be ran to your humidistat. The other side of the switch of your humidistat should be wired to the HUM terminal.
I hope you will find this helpful. Good Luck!!!!

House is dry though it's quite cold outside and furnace is running. Aprilaire is turned up to 35 (I have a dial, not a digital panel). the water panel is completely dry (should it be?)

unless the humidty in your home is higher then 35%. if it is then the humidifier would not run. try turning it up higher and see if it comes on. Do you hear a click in the humidistat? as you turn up the dail when you hear the click is when the humidifier should come on. Also remember your furnace must be running for the humidifier to come on. if you hear the click and the humidifier fan comes on but no water, you may have a clogged inline filter located in the solinoid valve or a bad soliniod. all parts for your humifier can be purchased from www.aprilaire.com

Aprilaire 550 makes extremely loud grinding noise when turned on

yes it should be bypass but solenoid could be trying to open but the voltage to it may be to low if you have 24v ac power at the 2 small wires. but to change shut down power to furnace and water to humidifier.you loosen the 2 compression nuts unwire they cant be reversed so dont worry then 2 mounting screws then reverse to install

Aprilaire 500 - Everything works, but humidity will not increase!

You should take out that aprilaire and throw it in the garbage or return it to who you got it from. Ask them why they didn't offer you the best humidifiers available. The only way to truly control humidity in your home without running your heat is a steam humidifier. Autoflo makes a good one also honeywell makes a new one. I have installed a honeywell tru steam in my own home and a few customers it hasn't lived up to its advertising. The auto flo has never given me any problems with customers.

How does transformer hook up

if you just replace the unit and it is working, no your do not need the tranformer. The unit is getting power from the furnace. For reference though. The black and white wires are your 120 volts. Black hot, white common. the 2 screws are your 24 volts
