In the upper right corner of the LCD there is a small battery level indicator. When the battery is fully charged, it is all black. As the charge goes down, one side will be white and the other side black to indicate the remaining charge. If you look at item 6 on page 6 of the manual, it shows you. even new batteries can die. I only can advice you to try to start a charge cycle a few times in a row, but if the charger does not indicate it is charging, I'm afraid you really have to buy a new battery.
I have a Nikon battery that is almost 3 years off age and in the camera it says capacity 100% NEW. But it is used on a regular base and charged regular.
If the rechargeable battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all. OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time. If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced. Rechargeable batteries will fail if stored in a discharged state for long periods.
Charger flashing red indicates the battery is still not full and is in the process of recharging. Red light steady indicates your battery is fully charged and ready to operate with your Coolpix 5000. When red light is off it indicates there is no battery inserted or the charger is not pluged in.
I cannot be sure but a 4.5 year old camera 'may' have an old battery. Meaning you charge it to 100% and it has something like 25% total capacity. (Especially if you used the camera a lot) You never see a battery indicator on the display when shooting... like 5 minutes after you charge
We had this same problem...battery indicator light not showing and battery not charging. We found out by accident that if the battery cover is open, it won't charge. So open the battery cover, open the USB cover, shut the battery cover and then plug in the USB as normal. It worked for us, hope it will work for you too.
yes your battery are finish they can not hold the charge put new one on charge for 12 hrs not less
if there not fully charge it is your battery charger
defective....
