Indicator light on my maytag electric smoothtop range will not shut off even though the indicators are off?

This error means that the door lock didn't engage properly. This could be a wiring problem or a problem with the switch. First disconnect the range from power and check the wiring and switches from the control to the switch and back. If the door was locked when the F5E2 error was observed, then replace the door switch.

If the door was not locked, then check the door switch and the latch switch. Replace the bad switch.

After replacing the bad part, reconnect the power to the range. Press and hold any key for a minute to clear the F5 code from the memory. Then press Cancel to clear the next code you see. Check if the range works.

The heating coils in the oven need to be inspected very carefully where they plug in to the oven wall. You will need to remove the back covers and check the insulators and wiring harnesses. Over time the insulation can break down and oxidize the metal connections. You can use a voltmeter or test light to verify that the coils are getting voltage from the thermostat/switch. replacing parts is cheaper than buying new if you can find the parts.

No the stove don't work right then you have to have a repair man look at that.

Unplug it for a while then plug it back in it might reset it's self.

I can't help you with this if the light will not go off on one burner then replace that switch . but if you turn the power off and the light still is on. the unit is getting power from another unknowen source . mm

you have a bad switch, you need to unplug the wire going to the conector marked P on one switch at a time til you find witch switch is bad. if you have turned off the breaker to it and the light is still on then the power is not off to it there is not a batery in it, careful that glass breaks easy when out of it's can

usually means that the probe in that heating element has gone bad. it's no big deal but if it bothers you replace that element.

you need to order a custom control kit, electronic switch that contorls onlly that one burner

the "hot top" indicator lamp is switched by a contact on the plate cut-out. sometimes this cut-out is available as a separate part but often must fit complete plate. by plate i mean the bit that gets hot!

They may stay on until the burners cool off. To indicate a hot surface.
