Removed splatter shield

Hi, we removed a thick piece of plastic thinking it was supposed to be taken off the inside door of our microwave. Now the door has visable splatter and I'm not sure if door can be taken apart to clean it . Also was wondering if there's anyway to get another splatter shield from the company? Oh, and the door front fogs up, probably from removing the splatter shield? Any help would be greatly appreciated we "inherited" a Panasonic 1250W Genius Sensor microwave that the waveguard (protective plastic film on inside of the door) was removed. There are splatters on the inside glass which need to be cleaned. I am sure there is a way to take the door apart to clean, but I'm not sure. Does anyone know how to do this?

Do a google for how to clean a microwave door and it shows you how to take the screen off and clean it. I have same problem with a brand new Frigidaire--splatters between screen and door--looks bad! and I contacted company and they said call a service tech! I can't afford to!!!

The parts can be ordered from the Panasonic authorized parts rep. You have to contact Panasonic for details.

I strongly recommend to have any work on a microwave oven done professionaly. There are radiation leakage issues if the door is not re-assembled properly. After doing any service the microwave oven must be tested for radiation leaks. I doubt that you have the radiation testing equipment to make sure that there are no leaks.

I own a microwave: model # jes636wk01 There is a plastic film covering the wire mess on the inside of the door. Will the microwave operate safely if the film is damaged or removed?

yes. It is there to protect the glass from food splatters It is the panel with the million holes that controls the micro waves I would not remove it but have it replaced if damaged.

I am also having this same problem i dont know the solution yet, but when you figure it out please let me know, or if i figure out i will repost =]

Need to replace the splatter shield on my Emerson microwave, serial # MV899SB. Is it safe to use the microwave without this shield?

Advise not to use. Without the shield cooking grease or other material may splatter into the main microwave components and cause them to fail. Some of those parts can cost over $100.00.

Cleaning inside of microwave door

You have to separate the door panels (as shown in the attached photo) and then you'll see the previously hidden screws you need to remove.

Or you can watch a YouTube video (not a video I made) that demonstrates how it's done.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

IN CABINET MICROWAVE

Hello JudyKitz,
That mesh is there to protect the user and acts as a shield to contain microwave energy to the cooking compartment. Never compromise that material.. You can purchase replacment liners at this site http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=5130353 If you prefer, you can get a thin piece or sheet plastic cut to fit at many local hardware stores or home centers..You may want to make a paper template or take accurate measurements with you for that method.. Hope this helps you..

XL1800 Microwave Problem

A LOUD ticking sound could very well be a High Voltage Arc. This is usually caused by a breakdown of insulation on High Voltage Wires, or components. It can also be arcing between the door frame and the cavity. Usually where the bottom of the cavity floor meets the door frame. Indication of this will be small areas on the door where it looks like the paint has been chipped off, but if you look close you will see it is small burned marks. Another area is the Splatter Shield located inside and at the top. It looks like a Plastic Cover. It is not plastic, but a fiber material. Grease, and food will get trapped on and under this Splatter Shield. Over a period of time the grease and food particles will break down from being cooked over and over again. They will then form Carbon. Which will Arc when Microwaves are present. Remove Push-Pins holding Splatter Shield. Clean by washing with dish detergent . If burned (arc) spots are still present after washing, replace Splatter Shield or arcing will continue. Once Carbon has burned through, it will continue to burn.

Dirty Door Glass inside the choke - how do I clean it?

Its very hard to take apart the doors They normally have a lot of screws. May have a plastic snap on cover that's covering them up. Some of them are even sealed and can not be taken apart.

Anytime you work on a door you must check it with a microwave leakage meter. The door has metal gaskets and a screen that blocks the microwaves upsetting them will cause it to leak.

This is not a do it yourself repair.

Removed splatter shield

I am currently fixing my microwave, which has done the same thing. Go to http://www.repairclinic.com/SmartSearch/smartsearch.aspx?SearchText=%60AMicrowave

just select your brand and under parts, select doors and handles. It will be called Door film, peel & stick. For my microwave, it runs from $16.00 to $21.00. Seems like a very easy fix.
