I have a symmetra RM UPS with 2 extended run battery frames. I am constantly getting a "XR frame fault" on the power view panel and an error code E0 is being displayed on extended battery frames labelled 2 and 3. The fault reoccurs even after resetting by disconnecting the communication cable and resesting the micro-latch on the SYXRCC. Can you please help?

Other steps to help diagnose:
First we will diagnose the XR Frame, the Anderson Connector, and the Communication Card. Then you will reseat the XR Communication Card. Then we will slowly introduce the batteries into the XR Frame to see if anyone of the batteries is causing the issue.

Step 1: Remove all of the batteries from the XR Frame.
Step 2: Disconnect the XR Frame from the UPS by removing both the Anderson connector and the RJ14 Communications Cable.
Step 3: Reseat the Communications Card from the rear of the XR Frame.
--> You may need a flat head screwdriver to remove the 2 thumb screws located on the far left and right of the card.
--> You will also want to make sure that the Black Frame # selector (small black rectangle with a small white arrow)is switched to the correct number -- in your case 2. This switch is located on the card you just reseated.
Step 4: Allow the UPS to see that the XR Frame was removed.
--> You can verify this by using the Powerview display: Menu > Diags > Batteries > *here you will have the option to select 'FRAME 1 OF 1' or '1 OF 2' ... You want it to say 1 of 1.
Step 5: Reconnect the RJ14 Cable.
Step 6: Reconnect XR Frame, with no batteries installed.
--> You will want to make sure that the XR Frame comes online by itself. You should see the frame number in red letters/numbers and you will see a green light on the Communications Card. If the XR Frame does not come on then you may have a problem with the Anderson Connector, the RJ14 Cable, or the Communications Card itself -- contact me for help here.
Step 7: If the XR Frame is on, reintroduce the batteries into the XR Frame one at a time making sure that you can see the number of batteries increase in the Powerview Display.
--> If the E0 error appears again after introducing a battery, then remove the battery, set it aside, and continue inserting the remaining batteries. Repeat this step if the E0 error appears with another battery. If the problem is fixed and you had to set aside batteries -- then all you will need to obtain replacement batteries -- contact me for a quote.

After you follow these steps very carefully, you should know what is causing the error or have it fixed altogether.

Eric with UPS Power Solutions here. Wow!! Did he really not answer the question?!?
EO -There are several possible conditions which would ause this error:

E0 - There are several possible condition which would cause the error.
1. 3 Volt difference between battery voltage of XRframe and Main Frame
2. Fuses are faulty on XR Frame
3. Problem at the VDC Bus of XR Frame and or Main Frame
4. One of the pins on the Anderson Connection is receded which causes an open connection between Frames.

Check the Battery Voltage from the SYMSTRF or SYMINlF using Power View STATUS info. Also, check the Battery Voltage from the XR using PowerView DIAGS Batt frame 2 of 2 RAW STATUS information? There should not be a difference between these two frame DC bus values. Once you have verified a voltage difference between the Main Frame Batteries and the XRFrame batteries, have the customer remove the Power cable and look at the Anderson Connection to check whether or not one of the PINS is Receded inside the Andenen connector. It maybe the Main Frame or the XRframe connection, make sure you have customer check both ends of Power cable. If the pins on Power cable are good, but the voltage between XR Batteries and Main Frame batteries have a voltage difference, have the customer swap the batteries from the Main Frame into the XR frame and Vice Versa. If the there is a recessed pin, this may require replacement of the power cable.

The first thing is to make sure the interconnection between the main module and the extended run is properly making contact

Next is to verify the XR battery cabinet voltage is according the battery charging voltage (normally 137 Vdc). Power View will confirm this voltage.

My favorite is to load test the batteries module individually and make sure the batteries are good.

If there is a +/- 3 volts difference between the UPS and the extended run module E0 alarm would be indcated.

I have an Symmetra RM APC and there is an amber light showing and a beeping about every 30 seconds.

Hi Ewiesemann,

The amber light on the UPS usually means that the unit is 'on battery' -- meaning that input power is affected. Check to make sure that unit is plugged in and check to make sure that a breaker on a panel feeding the UPS power hasn't tripped.

Hope this helps.

I have a Symmetra LX 16000 , and ups sen me the message ...Critical - UPS A main intelligence module fault exists.. code 0x0203.

Hi Scabcmx,

Without knowing the full model number of your UPS I cannot go into specific details fully for you.. but a good test with any 'intelligence module fault' is to re-seat the module and run a self test. If the fault remains then your intelligence module is bad and you will need to acquire a new one to replace the faulty one. This can all be done 'on-line' and you should not have any downtime... assuming there is a redundant intelligence module in the unit which is normally the case. This will clear the fault.

Matrix 3000 "bottom fan fail" need a replacement fan. APC said they don't have in stock and is discontinued.

The APC Matrix-UPS 3000 Isolation Unit IU bottom fan APC part number appears to be 490-0006-A. There are three OEM parts that APC appears to have used:
NMB Technologies 4715KL-05W-B30-P00
Japan Servo CNDC24B7-34
Sunon KDE2412PMB1-6A
But any fan that has the following specs should work:
119mm x 119mm x 38mm, plastic (black) 94V-0, ball bearing, 2-wire, 24 VDC (9.0V min, 10V to 27.6V), 2800 RPM, 80 CFM min, 41 dbA max

Symmetra LX16000,5.93kva; Problem;Alarm indicating power module fault.

Hi Akortic,

Without knowing the full model number of your UPS I cannot go into specific details fully for you.. but a good test with any 'power module fault' is to re-seat the module and run a self test. This only applies if you have an extra/redundant power module to support the load. If the fault remains then you have a bad power module and you will need to replace it as soon as possible. This can all be done 'on-line' and you should not have any downtime... assuming there is a redundant power module in the UPS. This will clear the fault.
