You've lost/deleted your sound drivers. You can usually go to the manufacturer's website (DELL, Gateway, Emachines...) and they will have a free download for your model number. If not, you can usually get by installing a generic audio driver like Realtek AC97 drivers. Google and you should find plenty of download sites...

yes you have to reinstall the audio driver, you can find the driver in the cd/dvd together when you purchase the laptop just insert it on your dvd rom and find the driver related to audio then install it
restart the system it will ask found new hardware there one window comes click on next and next and there you select cd-rom , insert driver cd and click next it will take drivers and it will install after that restart the system
