I am trying to install my old software on my new computer. After hitting the "Install personal patterns for children - special edition" I get an error message stating: could not execute external program...

Open "My Computer".
Double-click the icon for the CD-drive.
Look for that 'ppchild' file.
Or, look for an 'setup' file or an 'install' file.
Double-click one of those files, to restart the installer.

If it still fails, then your new computer (running Windows 7) probably has recognized that the program is _NOT_ compatible with Windows 7. So, start the Windows "Program Compatibility Wizard", and tell it that you want to install a Windows XP program on your new computer.

Alpine CDE-102 w/usb port: will not

Hello desoren,

The receiver may not be set to recognize MP3 files.

Press and hold "sound setup" until the unit enters setup mode. Rotate the volume knob to "play mode" and press "enter". Check that the setting is CD/MP3 (not CD/MA), or rotate the volume knob to change the setting to CD/MP3 and press enter again. Press and hold "sound setup" again until the unit exits sound setup.

If the files are still not recognized, I'd try using a different USB drive, a different computer to write the MP3's, and/or a different application to download or rip the original music content.

Hope this helps.

My printer software is not loading

This is very likely resulting from your CD?DVD drive not recognizing the software CD..

So simply take your printer software to another computer. If the computer recognizes the CD/software, copy it into another CD or other memory device like flash, memory card etc.

Return the copied software to your system with the printer and run the setup file from it. You will see this setup file within the software.

I have an Inspiron 5100 that is running very slow. I want to format the hard drive (40 GB)and reinstall XP Home. I hit the F12 key while booting and the computer tries to boot from the CD drive but it does...

This would be a good time to upgrade to Windows XP Professional. I think your disk from Dell is bad because you are going about it the right way.

One suggestion is to put your windows cd in the cdrom drive. Browse the cd for a file called setup, click on that and setup should run from there.

Flash drive isn't being recognized need to back up

Hello,

Regarding on your problem, in windows xp and up version of windows operating system, plug and play device is easy and no need to install its drivers manually cause the computer will automatically install its drivers. But in the case of Windows 98 you have to install your USB Driver manually in order to be recognize by the system. So my recommendation please insert the CD driver or load the driver of your USB and run the setup.exe to install the USB Driver.

Thanks

I cannot get my DVD Rom drive to recognize any DVD

You need to install the DVD decoder that came with the drive such as PowerDVD or WinDVD. If you dont have the disks or setup files for those, you can download a free Windows DVD player program such as VLC Media Player that will work. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
