Hi Jarrett622. Thanks for the quick update. I forgot to say that it does not recognize a dvd. It's as if there is nothing on the disk tray.

You can download a free DVD player to play the DVD to see if it can't work. If it still won't work, then maybe it is the issue of DVD drive machine or the DVD disc file problem.

The newer dvd's often won't play on older machines. The easiest solution is to download and install the VLC Media Player. The VLC Media Player is an open source free player and can be downloaded here.

Hope this solves the problem.

That's exactly the problem I was thinking it was. Try the VLC player. I had a computer in here last week had the same problem. The VLC player did the trick. :-) It's the codecs and the encoding they're using now as opposed to several years ago.

I have a toshiba satellite it will not play any audio sound and when you go on the volume it says it as toshiba dvd-rom sd r2412 and all i want is sound on my laptop can you help me please

Do you have sound at all, or just not when you play a CD or video DVD?
Fist thing to check is if your audio drivers are installed and working properly.
If necessary, find and install the right sound driver for the computer.
There are some more things to try to fix sound in Windows, hope that helps.

Dvd decoder

YOu need a 3rd pary dvd player software installed, Like power dvd. Power DVD , Win Dvd etx, you should have gotten a copy of a player when you brought your computer, If you didnt or cant find it you can download one, many have trial versions or you can get a free one.

If you get a trial version of Power Dvd it automatically installs a dvd decoder. even if power dvd trial expiers and you cant use it anymore you will still be able to play the dvd's on windows media player cause the decoder will remain there and media player will have axcess to it :)
