Vegtable oil is safest!!!

Mineral oil is safe to use. You NEVER NEVER want to use any type of vegetable oil or pan spray. It will do more damage than good to your slicer. The good food machine oils are a just a high quality mineral oil.

I have a berkel slicer 808. the slider arm is stiff i have lubed it and adjusted the carriage assembly and it is still stiff to push back and forth. Would the plastic bushings cause this??

The Problem most likely is that remnants or build up is inside the shaft of the slide that the arm rides on, under the slicer you will see a rod that it rides on, most of the time it gets dirty and build up occurs, I may get some back lash but I unplug machine, lift up, heat up the rod and the part that rides on it with a blow torch and that melts all the junk away carefully not to burn yourself i slide it up, then remove remnants with steel wool (hot) then repeat and clean rod until moving free, then oil both with mineral oil. and if you see some one using veggie oil or pam on it beat them with a stick across the knuckles firmly until they understand, repeat if necessary. lol
Good luck

OUR PROBLEM IS THAT THE SLICER KEEPS GETTING STIFFER TO PUSH AND THUS MORE DIFFICULT TO SLICE MEATS AND CHEESES

You have to put mineral oil on the bar that the arm slides on otherwise it gets full of junk and stiffens up
