I am getting a great signal from my router but when I try to connect, its cycles through the "acquiring address" and then goes to automatic. I have hardwired from the modem directly to my computer and the network is working. Any ideas on what may be wrong with the router

Hello,
There are many reasons why this might be happening.. You could try the following steps..
1) Disconnect the power from router for a minute and reconnect and check. 2) Try changing the wireless channel and Network name and try re-connecting. 3) Check if there is an firmware update for your product and update if any update is available. 4) If none of the above steps work you will need to reset and re-config your router. ( For that you need the CD given with the router and you will need the ISP settings.)
Hope this helped

The wap54G is having issues. Computers trying to connect to it keep acquiring ip address and never connecting. Any advice on what might be wrong?

Hi williamrayes,

If you have a message that acquiring ip address you can Power Cycle the router for 2 minutes then try to connect again or you can try to check if the Network Key that your typing is correct (If the connection is secured). You can check the Network Key of your router by accessing the Wireless Settings Page of your router. To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.1.1, the Default username is blank and the password is admin. Go to the Wireless Tab select Wireless Security, You can personalize the Network Key if your want. Save the settings then try to connect.

Rate me if this helps so I can help others.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Acquiring network address

Sometimes you have to change your computer's settings or the routers settings to know what type of encryption its looking for otherwise it will just stay on acquiring.

Linksys USB adapter not working

Check your device setting on the adapter and make sure they are set to get IP automatically. The check the router and verify that it is set to assign address by DHCP and that you have not exceeded your capacity. Some providers may have set a limit and the new device is not getting an address because there is not a free address. Your other option would be to assign the IP manually and connect. You might also try changing the channel your router is using to communicate on. This has been an issue with channel 6 on Cisco routers and HP machines in my area.

Unit will not connect, getting acquiring network address.

Hi Houzeman Have you: re-started the computer         power-cycled the router, ie, unplugged unit and waited 10+ seconds, before re-connecting                 disabled the unit, then enabled it checked in Control Panel that the wireless card/ usb adaptor, is enabled; try disable/enable
before checking settings
re-input username and password
re-input security settings?

If you are using a separate modem and router, turn both off, then power-on the modem, before the router.  If you have ethernet access, and a Local Area Connection is available, use it to open a browser and type in 192.168.2.1 (assuming yours is a Belkin) and check your settings.
I use a Belkin, which is a good unit, but it can be cantankerous sometimes, dropping out, then coming back unexpectedly and without reason. Good luck NOEL

I have a Belkin wireless router model F5D7633AU4A and I show a Excellent signal.....but it will not Acquire a network address

Do you mean your computer wil not acquire a network address from the router? If this is the case on your computer, click on start then click on run, in the run window type in cmd and press the enter key. You will now be in the windows doss prompt. Once in the doss prompt type in 'ipconfig /release' with quotes removed and press enter. After you do this type in 'ipconfig /renew' with quotes removed and press enter. After you do this restart the computer and see if it acquires the address. If this does not work try restarting the router. Keep me posted. If you found this solution helpful please rate it. Having Problem Acquiring IP Address

when using the range extender you have to make sure you set the SSID, channel & wireless key in the range extender the exact same as the router also it has to be in the same IP range so if the router IP address is 192.168.0.1 the range extender IP address has to change from 192.168.1.240 to 19.168.0.240. Hope that helps.
