We have a Five Star gas oven and attempted to use the self cleaning process to clean the oven. We started yesterday and it appeared to complete the cleaning cycle. This morning, however, the locking mechanism did not release and the oven door remains locked. We unplugged the electrical cord for approximately 2 minutes and plugged back in. Do you know what is causing the door to remain locked and how do we correct? Thank you.

There are two reasons for the lock to remain locked. One: the thermostat/wiring failed. This results in the oven's control still believing that the oven is too hot (over 450 degrees) and thus will not unlock. The other possible problem is that the unlock mechanism failed.

You can try to unlock the oven manually. (For some ranges, you can do this from the back of the range.) Please add a comment with the model of the oven/range for more assistance.

I hope this gets you started on solving the problem.

How do i lock the self cleaning ge oven door when i put it on self clean

If you have a self cleaning oven, the door will lock automatically as the self cleaning begins. Give it some time ,it will happen. When cleaning is done it will take a while for the door to unlock. GOOD LUCK FRIEND.

I have a drop-in oven from frigidaire.I started the self cleaning process the door did not lock and the light keeps flashing,I dont know how to stop it and i cant use the oven at all.

Good Morning friend, thank you for your post!

I understand that your Frigidaire range is not allowing you to cancel and you are unable to use the oven. I would suggest holding down the "Cancel/Clear" button for ten seconds and that should cancel the self-cleaning. If that does not work I would recommend a reset on your range, you can do that by flipping off the household circuit breaker for ten minutes. I hope this has been helpful. -Matt

Whirlpool self-cleaning feature not available

Because the features mention utilize 220 VAC power, I do not advise you attempt any corrections. Very dangerous; unless you are a trained technician. If the unit is in Warranty, get the Whirlpool folks out to you home ASAP.

How to start the self-cleaning cycle in jenn-air sce30600?

An electric cooktop uses a great deal more electrical energy than a gas cooktop. The electric portion of the gas cooktop runs the electronics (clock, timer, ignitor, oven light, etc.), and these are small electrical loads. An electric cooktop uses more electrical energy cooking a batch of, say, pasta sauce, than a gas cooktop would normally use in a month or two. There just isn't a good comparison as there is such a broad difference in the electrical usage of the two units.

I have a Frigidare range with self cleaning oven. I can't use the oven because it keeps telling me to lock the door, which starts the self cleaning process. If I try to start the oven it tells me the door...

the door lock motor assly could be bad.during self cleaning process the motor runs and locks the door and activates a switch .the control reads the swithch.if motor does not tunrn the door is not closed and it does not activate the switch.at the maximum it could be the control itself gone bad and able to read the switch.but that is less likely.

Kitchenaid gas ccoktop electronic ignition continues to click

We called in an appliance repair technician. He said during the cleaning process of the cooktop, when the control knobs had been removed to thoroughly clean the cooktop, some cleaning fluid or water or moisture got into the ignition switch panel under the cooktop. Letting it dry for 24 hours should fix the problem and this appears to have done that.
