The encryption (hex) key is in the router's wireless settings.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to be configured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in all the laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wireless settings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.
Connect a LAN cable from the Belkin to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Belkin configuration URL
http://192.168.2.1
The default PW = blank (just press enter)
You can protect your router by changing the default PW (write it down and put it in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2 encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.
Connect your DSL or cable modem to the D-Link router.

What is my WEP hex key?

your 26 digit WEP key will be printed on a label on the 2wire modem.
It's actually 13 HEX digits, but if you don't know what hex is, it's easier to just say it's a 26 digit number.

Step 1 Log into the web configuration of the router by opening up a web browser and typing in the IP address of the router (192.168.0.1).

  • 256-bit encryption 58 characters (available on DI-614+ only)

    Can't connect ibm laptops wep to wgr614

    On my WGR under WIreless settings I have WEP, Automatic, 64bit, Key 1 checked, and a 10 character HEX key.

    There is an SSID and when I log in via laptop, it askes for the key. I input my 10 character hex number and I'm logged in.

    ASCII is easier to use. Hex numbers can get pretty long.
