Most likely not, because the water damage has already damaged the circuits and the other components of the DS, and if there is any water inside the DS, the rice can't get inside of it like the water, and won't absorb it.

I have a nintendo dsi xl that has water damage and when i turn it all right before it turns on to the main screen it goes in sleep mode and i dont shut it its open and everything

Water damage usually spells the end for any gadget, but you can try the following and see if it helps.
Put the DSi into a warm, dry place (usually a hot press or something similar). Make sure it is not too hot as you will just burn out the DSi. Place a bowl of plain white rice beside the DSi and leave for 12 hours. Repeat with a fresh bowl of rice for another 12 hours if the problem persists.
Please bear in mind that the rice is there to soak up any water vapor in the air, it's not going to magically fix your DS but it is a tried and tested way to dry out gadgets of this kind.
Best of luck!

Can I place the nintendo ds in rice without taking it apart for water damage. I dropped it in the toilet!:(

It sounds weird but use a small nozzle on a vaccuum to **** the water out - and do it for about 20 mins but you have to do it ASAP, and try to get at every little spot where you feel there might be an opening.

Its not guaranteed to work but its the best method i have found for getting water out of portable devices like phones and such without opening them.

Thanks, if this solution helps please rate :)

What to do if ds gets wet & doesn't switch on?

Hi,

Firstly, DON'T try to switch the DS on.

Next remove everything that can be removed (Games Cartridge e.t.c.)

Next put the DS in a warm area for 24 hours (Near a radiator or an airing cupboard)

Now try and turn the DS on to see if it is now working.

If it isn't working, fully submerge the DS in a bowl of rice for 24 hours with everything removed once again. The rice draws out any remaining moisture.

Clear out any rice from the DS and try to use it again.

9 times out of 10 this works and can be used or any other small electrical device (Phone, ipod) e.t.c.

I accidently dropped it in the washing while in my pocket and now screen turns blcak and does not work. How do i fix it?

Hello :

This works on most mini electronic devices like cellular phones and degital cameras . Maybe it works with your Nintendo .. You can give it a try .

This will sounds crazy but you can try it .

Remove the cover and battery DIRECTLY
.

Then, with a q-tip (or something similar), dab the connection points (shiny, goldish) on the battery, . This should aid in drying.

Finally, place all contents in a bag of uncooked rice (separately, do not put back together just yet). I know this sounds crazy, but it draws the moisture out.

It normally is working after just 12 hours, but I would wait 24 hours before attempting to use (just to be sure).

Beware the water damage, despite being dry now, will void any warranties. Also, your Nintendo hardware is now weakened and if you drop it, the green mother board and circuitry could shatter - so be more careful.

good luck .

Can you fix ds lite water damaged

as long as the screens are still fine and work just change the motherboard. You could try drying it out, but the mistake alot of people make is when water is spilt on it is to turn it on to see if it still works, your best bet is to just take the battery out and leave it for about 48hrs to dry out. good luck

My ds isn't reading the edge card all of a sudden. Other games work fine, just the edge. I'm thinking it might be water damage from a humid room or a spilt drink that I wasn't aware of. Any help?

Try this you suspect the water damage from a humid room :
This works on most mini electronic devices like cellular phones and degital cameras etc .

Remove the back (or Cover ) of the phone( or Camera ), battery, and SIM if your phone ( or Device ) uses one , DIRECTLY
.

Finally, place all contents in a bag of uncooked rice (separately, do not put back together just yet). it sounds crazy , but it draws the moisture out.

It normally is working after just 7-8 hours, but I would wait 12 hours or even 24 hours before attempting to use (just to be sure).

beware the water damage, despite being dry now, will void any warranties. Also, the phone's hardware is now weakened and if you drop it, the green mother board and circuitry could shatter - so be more careful.

This does work on electronic devices aside from phones as well. Simply tailor it to your device. If you do not have a SIM (Verizon phones, cameras, all others), remove only the battery. If you have an iPhone/iPod or GPS and cannot remove the battery, simply make sure it is all the way off, then put it in the rice bag. All electronic devices react the same to the rice trick.

Nintendo DS Lite got water damaged

Heat the DS in an oven. REMOVE BATTERY as it may become heat damaged. The DS lite's max rated temperature is 50 degrees celcius or 122 degrees fahrenheit. So set the oven to 120-125. As oven thermostats are not known for accuracy put a reliable temperature sensor in with it. Something like a turkey temperature probe, just in case your oven is way off. Do not do this with a hairdryer as localised hot spots may reach a higher temperatures. Leave it in there for a while, its up to you, maybe 2 hours would be considered a good suggestion. If your feeling adventurous you could take it apart and put it in the oven in bits. It would obviously dry out much quicker. Providing the cicuits haven't corroded that should do the trick. Next step would be to disassemble the DS (tutorial video at http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=11484) and clean the motherboard with alcohol and a cotton bud.

note: you need a tri-wing screwdriver to disassemble the DS. you can get them on Ebay for a few quid.
