Usb 2.0 ports not working on my emachines T3504

Hi,

I have an emachines T3504 desktop pc.

I've always used Linksys Compact Wireless-G USB Network Adapter with SpeedBooster to connect to my Westel router.

right now my pc says it doesn't recognize my linksys USB when inserted into the USB port.

I looked at the my computer/properties/hardware/device manager.... the PCI entry says the device is working.

The Linksys Compact Wireless-G appears to be working because when I put it in the USB port of our other home PC...that PC recognizes it is there...

any ideas? thanks so much for your help! mike

You may need to uninstall your current usb's and let Windows redetect them.

click on START, SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL, SYSTEM. Click on tab HARDWARE, click on DEVICE MANAGER. Scroll down to UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CONTROLLER. Delete everything there. Click on ACTION, SCAN FOR HARDWARE CHANGES. It should redetect and you should be good.

One of the USB ports on my T3504 was damaged. Now none of the ports work. Can I purchase a USB expansion card to solve the problem?

a usb expansion port would work. its likely however that the pins in the damaged port are shorting out, try to look into the port and move any pins apart that are touching

When I installed my Linksys WUSB54GSC Adapter my computer will not boot up. I have Windows Vista. The computer is new.

Disconnect the usb adapter and see if your computer still boots up. If it does, try connecting the adapter on another usb port and see what happens. If your PC will still not boot up using another usb port, try the adapter on a 2nd computer. If 2nd PC fails to boot up when the adapter is plugged in, most likely the adapter is faulty.

Good Signal,Good Mbps, Slow Internet Connection?

1. Try to use a different wireless adapter on all available USB ports, if the problem remains then
2. turn off your PC unplug the power cord from the power socket, short the two legs of the power cable then leave it for 5min, then plug it into the power socket again and turn on the PC.

if this didnt work then you have a hardware problem with the USB ports.

let me know how it works out.
