Adding More Memory

When I started using this MB I had 2 512mb PC3200 DIMM's installed in DIMM A1 [blue] and DIMM B1 [blue] these worked with no problem.

Later I decided to add more memory and as I only change 1 area at a time when making changes, I removed the 512mb DIMM's and installed 2 1gb PC3200 DIMM's in their place at DIMM A1 [blue] and DIMM B1 [blue] . They worked fine.

Then I installed the 2 512mb DIMM's into DIMM A2 [black and DIMM B2 [black]. When I started to boot up the monitor showed nothing at all except it's built in check saying the monitor was OK. Thinking I might have damaged the 512mb DIMM's I removed all the DIMM's and installed the 2 512mb DIMM's into DIMM A1 [blue] and DIMM B1 [blue] and they worked with no problem.

I cannot make the computer work with all the DIMM slots filled. I have heard that others had the same problem. What's the fix?

I bought P3200 ddr 400 1gb memory and when i install it , it does not show up. any ideas why and if there is something i can do .

The Intel® Server Board S875WP1-E supports both ECC and Non ECC Unbuffered PC2100 (266 MHz), PC2700 (333 MHz), or PC3200 (400 MHz) compliant Double Data Rate (DDR) memory modules. Dual channel memory functionality requires two DIMM modules installed into DIMM sockets 1A & 1B, and then DIMM sockets 2A & 2B. The DIMM module size, speed and vendor must be the same.

You can install a single 128 MB memory module into DIMM socket 1A. The minimum supported memory size is 128 MB. The minimum main memory configuration is a single 128 MB memory module, and the maximum configurable memory size is 4GB. With only a single memory module installed, the system will only operate using a one memory channel.

Third party memory vendors may use the same module part number with different
DRAM vendors and die revisions. To insure proper system operation, verify that each DRAM
vendor and die revision has been separately tested and qualified. Please notify CMTL if there is a discrepancy.

HP Pavilion Media Center PC not detecting memory in slots 3 & 4.All memory works in slots 1 &2.Memory is all the same.

Info from the manual:

Memory configurations

You can install 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, and 1GB DDR SDRAM DIMMs into the DIMM sockets using the memory configurations in this section.

• Install only identical (the same type and size) DDR DIMM pairs

using the recommended configurations.

• Make sure that the memory frequency matches the CPU FSB

(Front Side Bus). Refer to the Memory frequency/CPU FSB

synchronization table on the next page.

• This motherboard does not support double-sided 16-bit DDR DIMMs.

• Do not create a three-DIMM configuration in dual-channel mode. The
third DIMM is ignored in the dual-channel operation.

Anyone know why an ASUS PTGD1-LA motherboard will only take memory in slots A1 and A1 or A1 and B1 but not anything in B with both in A filled? Brand new memory.

HI,

The board has specific requirements for memory. Here's the Memory Configurations :

  • You may install 256 MB. 512 MB and 1 GB unbuffered non-ECC DRR DIMMs into the DIMM sockets using the memory configurations in this section.

• Installing DDR DIMM. Other than the recommended configurations may cause memory sizing or system boot failure.

• In dual-channel configurations, install only Identical (the same type and size) DDR DIMM pairs for each channel.

• Always install DIMMs with the same CAS Latency. For optimum compatibility , It Is recommended that you obtain memory modules from the same vendor

• Double-sided x 16 modules are not supported on this motherboard.

• Due to chipset resource allocation, the system may detect less than 4 GB system memory when you installed four 1 GB memory modules.

For dual-channel configuration you may:

install identical DIMMs in all four sockets

• install identical DIMM pair in DIMM_A1 and DlMM_B1 (blue sockets) and identical DIMM pair in DIMM_A2 and DIMM_B2 (black sockets)

• install same size DIMMs in DIMM_A1 and DIMM_B1 (blue sockets) and another same size pair in DIMM_A2 aid DIMM_B2 (black sockets)

Hopefully this will help understand how to install the new memory.

Thanks Mark

Extra memory

My manual for P4P800-VM says :-
Mode Dimm A1 DimmA2 DIMM b1 dIMM b2
single ch 1 populated
2 populated
3 populated
4 populated
---------------------------------------- ----------------------------------
Dual ch 1 populated populated
2 populated populated
3 populated popuated populated populated
for dual channel 3 configuration you may
install identical dimms in all four sockets or
identical in A1 and B1 [blue ]
and identical in dimm A2 and dimm B2 [black sockets ].
Probably same as yours
Good luck

Burnt DDR DIMM socket

It may be possible, but the system may very well become unstable at times. The purpose of the different color dimms is either daul band memory and or hypertheading, which means the memory needs to be matched and in pairs to work correctly. I would try one pair in the same colored slots in which one of them is not burnt. Also can you get it to boot with one stick of ram in a slot? Have you seen this board boot at all with 1 burnt slot (Known Good Board). Hope this was informative to you. Good Luck, Let me know how it works out.

When i add a memory in damaged DIMM slot showing black screen?

Try moving the working DIMM to other slots, it should work in any slot, if it does, the other ram u have is incompatible or bad

Install a matched pair of DIMMs (equal in speed: DDR266, DDR333, or
DDR400; density: 64 MB, 128 MB, 256 MB, 512 MB, or 1 GB; and
technology: 128 Mb, 256 Mb, or 512 Mb) in DIMM 0 in both Channels A and
B. If additional memory is to be used, install another matched pair of DIMMs
in DIMM 1 in both Channels A and B.

SAMSUNG 1GB RAM 400MHZ PC3200

RAM has to be

Four 184-pin DDR DIMM sockets

Supports PC3200 (400 MHz) /PC2700 (333 MHz) / PC2100 (266 MHz) DDR DIMM type

Maximum HP/Compaq approved memory module is 1 GB

Maximum HP/Compaq approved memory is 4 GB
It has to be the same.

• If you are replacing a memory module, put the
new memory module in the same memory slot
from which the old memory was removed.
Or
• If you are adding a memory module, install the
new module into the socket nearest the
preinstalled module, and install additional
modules in the next available sockets
