SOURCE: align cartridge

Click 'Start' then 'Settings' then 'Printers and faxes' Right click on the printer in the list and select 'Properties' from the pop-up menu. Somewhere on the resulting dialog there will be a button labeled something like 'align' or 'calibrate'. Click this, you will need paper in the printer when you do this.

SOURCE: HP 1610 prints color blocks all over a black and white page.

You are lucky you can print ANYTHING! My unit has NEVER worked (3 years) due to a hardware defect of HP. I downloaded patches, cleaned/replaced cartridges, etc.
Spoke to HP last nite-Was told printer was junk-they don't carry it or any parts to fix it anymore!! I was told to replace it!

SOURCE: Will not print black , HP PSC 1610 All-in-One

Here was the solution. You MUST use HP brand black cartridge. Originally I purchased a #94 Office Max brand black cartridge. After it did not work I took it back and they gave me a second Office Max brand and that did not work either. So I took it back and they sold me an HP brand (I only needed to pay the difference in price so Office Max was good to work with). I installed the HP #94 black cartridge and everything now works.

There was bits of paper, from a stuck edge from a sheet of business cards that I think are perhaps still in the printer. When I print a colour sheet the alignment is off, printing black and white seems OK.

What do you mean by alignment?
If you mean that the colours are misaligned, run a full calibration. Repeat it three times and then try your printing.
If bits of the business cards were left in the printer - it should affect the colour printing as well as B + W. You would also be getting paper jams.

I have recently bought HP 2025dn, Magenta cartridge is not aligned. I am printing on 90gsm normal paper... help!!

If you are referring to a CPR (color plane registration) problem, where the magenta color plane is not aligned with the other color planes, you might first try forcing a color calibration. This can be done through the control panel menus by selecting System Setup-

My hp Color Laserjet 3550 Printer wont print black when it is out of color ink

The 3550 won't print in any color if any of the colors are out. You'll have to replace the color ink that's empty to get it to print.

In the future, if you're just printing black and white, you can select "Print in Grayscale" from the print properties to just use the black ink cartridge, which will help the color cartridges to last longer.

This has to do with the document printing properties. When you are ready to print a document, choose properties and make sure you go through the printer settings under that software.
The test page only verifies the cartridges. The printer properties of the software control the printer during printing.
