I have the same problem. The button feels like it won't press. Then as you give it more force, it suddenly goes. After that the camera works normally for the rest of the session. If I leave it sitting for a few minutes or so, the button somehow 'resets' to this frozen position. Again, forcing the button frees it and it works fine again until you put it away and try again later. Very strange!!!

It's REALLY hard to press down the button to take a photo. Is it possible that the battery is dying?

Yes it is possible that the battery is getting weak. Or the button which is of course a switch needs cleaning with electrical contact spray.

Pictures are blurry

The most common causes of blurry pictures are not holding the camera still and correctly pressing the shutter release button or using a slow shutter speed.

Let\'s talk about properly holding your camera first. Always hold your camera with both hands. With an SLR such as yours, grip the left side of the camera with your left hand and cradle the camera from underneath with your right hand using you thumb and index fingers to zoom. Hold your arms so that both elbows rest on either side of your chest and brace the top of the camera against your forehead. This forms a rigid triangle of support.

The second thing you must do is properly press the shutter release button. Do not poke the button because you will jerk the camera and that can cause blur. Instead, start to press the button gradually increasing the pressure until the shutter trips. It should trip almost by surprise. This is very similar to how a marksman pulls the trigger on a gun.

Assuming that you are holding your camera correctly, not "punching" your shutter button and your camera is not defective, here are two easy ways to solve your problem. First, you could use the manual exposure mode and keep your shutter speed at 1/500 second or faster. Second, go to the "S" shutter priority mode and set the shutter speed above 1/500 second. Your camera will automatically adjust the f-stop (lens diaphragm opening) and "film speed" for proper exposure. Please let me know if this resolved your problem.

hiit is not easy to tell what exact problem. It has quite of causes in your case. But I can only tell most common cause that it is sequence unit fail. It could also other like shutter fail, mirror box mech fail, motor fail, control pcb fail, and so on...etc...I recommended you bring to your local service place or Nikon service center which is helpful to you.

We have this camera and it will turn on & zoom. The camera will not snap the picture. What could the problem be? We have changed the batteries without sucess The camera has hardly been used. Larry

The problem could be that you're not fully pressing the shutter button. Many people squeeze the button until something happens... that's the half press that causes the autofocus to operate etc. Because something happened, they don't continue to press hard enough to actually take the snap.

Of course it's also possible that the plunger on the shutter button is too short and isn't reaching the switch properly, but I've only seen that on a kids cheap camera where it was squeezed too hard with impatience because cheap cameras operate slowly.

Oh, and one more thing: are you squeezing the button for long enough? I don't know how slow this particular model is.

Error code says press shutter release button again

I e-mailed nikon for this same problem. Their solution was to take out the memory card and press the shutter release button in the demo mode. To get to the demo mode you first need to go to custom menu/controls/no memory card?/press ok/ arrow down to enable release and press ok. Now you are ready to try solving this problem. Press the shutter release button to see if it will reset the shutter release button. I haven't tried it yet but it is worth a try.

Why doesn't the shutter button on my EasyShare digital camera work?

The cause and solution may include one of the following: The camera is not turned on. Turn on the camera. The camera is processing a picture; the camera Power ring light (on the Mode dial) blinks green. Wait until the light stops blinking before taking another picture. The card or internal memory is full. Transfer pictures to the computer, delete pictures from the camera, switch storage locations, or insert a memory card with available memory. The shutter button was not pressed. Depress the shutter button completely down. There was a failure in the focus and/or exposure. Press the shutter button halfway to set the Auto Focus (AF) and Auto Exposure (AE). When the AF/AE indicator turns green, press the shutter button completely down. The battery is exhausted. Replace or recharge the battery
