Try using VLC, it is platform wide and usually works with most hardware.

Normally when this happens, what one should look out for is the possibility of it happening again. Like desktops peripherals such as disc drives would have connections internally. If you can have them checked out if there were loose connections. It could also be faulty internals that will break down soon such as ICs in the drive.

Only way is through the power settings in the control panel.
A few handy tricks are:
disable the wireless antenna when you are not using it (the device uses power while it continuously scans for networks)
dim the monitor as much as you can
remove cd's from the drive when you are not using it,
remove any SD cards or USB thumb drives when not in use
Hope this helps. Aside from all of this I recommend picking up a backup battery that can be swaped when your current one goes dead. In essence it doubles your use time.

1. Click the Windows Start button.
2. Click Control Panel, System and Maintenance and then Device Manager.
3. Right-click on Chicony USB 2.0 Camera and select Update Driver Software. A yellow exclamation point indicates that the camera is recognized by Windows but is not working properly, probably because of problem with the device driver
4. Select Browse my computer for the driver software.
5. Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
6. Select USB Video Device from the list, and click Next.
7. If the message “Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device” appears, click Close.
8. Restart Windows.
The webcam should now work properly.
