I have the NS-PDP42 42" PLASMA 720-P and I would like to know how to change the screen resolution for hdmi devices. In the user guide it says to change it to 1280 x 720p but it does not tell how to change it. Or, should I be able to use 1080i. I use Comcast and have just gotten an HD box and it tells me to choose either 720p or 1080i and to refer to the TV'S manual to find the best picture resolution it will support.

There's no way to tell the HDMI input whether it should take 720p or 1080i input on this set. The best thing to do is experiment. Set your Comcast box to 720p and watch it that way for a while, then set it to 1080i and watch it for a while. The PDP42 has to do a little picture manipulation in either mode, but I think you'll find that the 720p mode will work best for you. I have this set with Verizon FiOS and I have the FiOS output set to 720p. Looks great, no complaints.

I cannot change my Visio resolution from 720 to 1080

If it is a 1080p TV, then the TV always displays at 1080p. The source device and/or the TV will scale and frame convert the image to match the TV resolution and frame rate. When you power an HDMI device, it reads the TV's supported resolutions and audio formats over the HDMI cable, then it chooses whether or not to scale the image for the TV. The television then receives the signal and performs whatever image processing is needed to match the display needs. With many Source devices, you can use a setup menu to configure whether video should always be scaled up to 1080p. Some people prefer the image scaling of the television. However, if the Source does not upscale, it will limit the resolution of on-screen graphics, such as the program guide. So you'll probably prefer to scale your source devices to 1080p through their menus.

How do I change the resolution on my Phillips 4k tv from 720 to a higher resolution tools

The TV will select the correct/appropriate resolution based on the source. To achieve the highest resolution you will have to connect a unit (video source) capable of providing 4K using HDMI 2.0 compliant cables. To achieve any HD resolution, the video source will have to be connected to a HDMI port. The ATSC terrestrial digital broadcast signal (over the air TV) is generally 720p, but many stations transmit in 1080i/1080p.

I can't get a signal between my Sony Blu-Ray Disc/DVD Player and Samsung HDTV monitor. They are connected via a HDMI cable. A brief message on the HDTV reads "Not supported".

First, try to reset resolution of HDMI Sony BD output.
Unplug HDMI cable from TV and change to Component connection to reset BD output resolution.
Than after you entered to resolution menu, choose to standart resolution 720 or 480 i.
If above methode working, try to reconect HDMI cable again to HD TV.
If any problem with picture or still "Not Supported" messege appear, i suggest to change HDMI cable first.
i hope its work.

Cant get the tv to go from 720 to 1080

Changing the resolution of 720 to 1080 is dependent of the input television. Make sure the HDMI cable connection or a PC cable connected properly.
If you uses a PC input, you should set the resolution with 720 to 1024 first. then set to higher resolution. If there is a problem when doing settings dark picture or not support, it means that the TV does not support the resolution.
Perform way above the HDMI connection too.
Hope this helped solve your problem.

Change the resolution on the cable box or satellite box, witch ever you have. A set by itself cannot change the resolution, if the cable is giving you 720p, that's what you'll see for that station. All stations do not transmit in HD. The best picture is only as good as they're giving you.

I do not know how to work the display resolution

The tv display resolution will automatically change depends on your source/device output resolution and TV inputs used as well. Television component and HDMI inputs accept 480i up to 1080p signal while composite and s-video accepts 480i(lowest resolution) signals only. You will get high resolution signals from cablebox, game consoles, bluray etc through their component or HDMI output jacks.

Can not get HDMI to work on PLAYSTION 3 on my Philips 42' Plasma

I had the same thing with my PS3 on a samsung 40". Try pressing the power button down on the PS3 for 5 secs or more, until it beeps (Not sure if it's one beep or a series of). I think this is how you reset the system and it should automatically recognise and reset the resolution size to HD on you're screen. Hope this helps,

Andy.
