We no longer have the remote and are using a universal remote and hooked it up to cable but were unable to get a lot of the cable stations we have access to. We can't select on the menu screen. Can we find an original remote somewhere?

You can purchase a universal remote that works with all sets at any Walmart, Target, Sears, Best Buy, Big Lots, Radio Shak ect. They come with instructions on how to program the remote to work with your model television set. Universal remotes also control DVD players, VCR's, Cable TV ect.
the cable in should go to the box and cable out from the box to the TV.These should all be coaxial cables correct?Hook up the DVD player to the TV using the red, white, and yellow cables is also correct. In order to watch a DVD,you have to use the input select button on the remote for the TV ONLY to change inputs. If you have a universal remote for the TV and not the original factory remote provided with the TV,you need to use the menu button located on the outside of the TV.I just searched on my flat screen and was unable to find an input select through the menu button. It may not be possible on this TV if you do not have the original remote and if you own a universal. My universal for one of my older TV's is about 7 years old so I do not know if newer ones have an input select option. If they do not,it is most likely due to patents and royalty payments which these cheap remote makers do not want to pay.Anyhow, let me know if this helps.Just comment here and i will get an auto link to your comments.Good luck! You need to make sure the TV is set for "cable" tuning and not "standard" or "air." (If you are getting only local off-air channels and no cable stations at
all, be sure you have a good cable and connection to the set. Normally, even if the TV is set for "air" you will get the low-number cable channels 2-13.) This is usually a selection through the TV's set-up menu. With a universal remote, it may be difficult or even impossible to get to all the menu entries. Most replacement remotes don't support all the original remote functions. Try with yours and good luck. Once you get the TV set to the proper tuning, you should have all your cable channels.
The origional remote is no longer available. However you can get the phillips universal remote at the following link. This is one of the best universal remotes available and easiest to program and will work 3 different items. This company ships for free http://servicemanuals.vstore.ca/
