Toshiba Satellite Pro L450 Notebook Logo
Anonymous Posted on Feb 08, 2011

My Toshiba L450 only has a black screen with a white cursor when I turn it on. Very briefly, it shows a Toshiba screen with F2 and F12 as the only options. I have tried both of these and tried to reset factory values, but nothing changes. Have also tried control-alt-delete, but again nothing.

OS is corrupt...reinstall OS using the original Windows CD

Testimonial: "Quick response - thanks!"

Win 7 can be bought in any online store like Ebay, or depending on which country you stay, go to a good PC shop and buy a legal copy....check if it's a bootable CD and will install OS from the CD Drive....some CDs dont do that....they are just rescue disks...
if i were you will just buy a WinXP Cd and install the WinXP in C: and install Win7 basic verion on another drive like D or E and make it a dual boot.....
visit my site www.sureshayyar.110mb.com for more info on instalation of OS

Toshiba Satellite L355D-S7815 had windows 8, opened up laptop and cleaned all the dust out and now when i turn the laptop on it shows the Toshiba screen but no F2 or F12 option's.

What you are talking about is called no POST. You either shocked the cmos and the bios wont load or something is not hooked up right.

It wont boot, goes to black screen with whit blinking dash

Yes, this sounds like the traditional black screen issue, but it's different! This machine is a Dell Dimension 3000 with XP. System won't boot. After Blue Dell BIOS splash screen with F2 & F12 options, it just goes black. There will ultimately be a white cursor in the upper left hand corner. I can edit BIOS with F2, I can get in to the boot menu with F12, but I can't do anything after that. I can even get in to the Safe Mode menu (F8), but it never boots.

I restarted my Toshiba satellite a305 and now it won't boot up or go into safe mode. It comes to the start up screen that says press f2 for setup f12 for boot manager. It will let me go into setup and boot...

If it won't let you go to safe mode, then there's something that the BIOS(setup) or Boot Manager needs before starting the operating system(Windows Vista). You should have a Toshiba Recovery Disk which will fix this . The disk will not touch any of your current files and data,so don't worry about that.

I will pay for help in trying to reboot this computer. I have tried all commands and end up with a black screen and a cursor. Is this common? The OS is windows 7

If you have tried all the commands (F2, F8, F12, etc), you should try booting it from a recovery disk. If you don't have one you should be able to download one from the Toshiba site.

I have a Toshiba satellite pro A300 which when it is powered up shows the 1st screen with options for setup etc using F2 and F12. The laptop responds to neither and goes to blank black screen with a white...

Hello, this is a common problem that is caused regularly from a virus or a software/driver that you have recently added and caused this. The first you must do is to try to boot from safe mode(pressing F5,F8) while you booting and enter safe mode and remove anything you installed recently. Also you can try to select Last Know Good Configuration. If non of this helped you must reinstall or repair the operating system.Am waiting for your reply.Good luck

Toshiba Satellite A300 - black screen at start up, white cursor .

the big battery is optional remove it , it is bad.
and run on AC for every (just not mobile)
next this this stinking NiMh rechargeable battery,
it only charges when PC is turned on so let PC run for 24hrs.
to charge this, but in truth never seen one ever last 16years.
not me nor do I expect that to happen
but its on the bottom of the motherboard, blue casing
it must be unsolder, many are now leaking phosphates.
its about dead center bottom mobo.

best is retirment, find PC 7 years newer. and win.

Toshiba Satellite laptop w/ blank, black screen & blinking cursor

the hard drive is not checking in correctly. go into your f2 function which is your bios. see if in there during the boot options if you have a hard drive showing up. if you do, you would need to check if the hard drive has failed or the o.s. is corrupt.if you do not see a drive there, its failed, check to see if its seated correctly. if it is seated correctly the drive has failed and will need to be replaced.

if it shows up, and if you have your restore disk, load it and select repair. it will look for the hard drive and any windows installations. if it does not find any. then the drive is bad and will need to be replaced, in the event it does find the windows installation then continue to repair the machine software.

Let me know what happens when you try this

Good Luck!
