Wireless printing with AT&T U-verse and 3800 HGV-B and Linksys WPSM54G

I have been set up on AT&T U-verse with a 2Wire 3800 HGV-B. I have a Wireless printserver by Linksys WPSM54G. I was able to print wireless until I switched over to U-Verse. I am having trouble setting it up again. I did some research and found that the wireless network key on the 3800 HGV-B is to be used for the WEP Key. The installation program for the printserver picks up my 2Wire but when I get to the end to be wirless it does not connect. Am I using the correct number? Do I input it as a Passphrase or WEP key?

I can ping my printer wirelessly. I reinstalled it and it is recognized. I just can't print wirelessly through the u-verse router. U-verse tech support is worthless and they want to send me to a 3rd party for a fee based solution. I feel like a beta testing site.

Oops. I was pinging the phone. The printer is not showing up on the device list when I access the router setup page.

I may not be able to completely solve the issue for all who posted, and I have not gotten the scanner part of my Brother MFC-5440CN printer/scanner/copier/fax to work through the wireless PS, but I can at least shed some light:

First off - trying to make the Linksys WPS54G work on a wireless network that has a decent level of security is NOT for the faint of heart!

Key issue is security; make sure you know what wireless security protocol your router is using (WEP-64, WEP-128, or WPA). My U-verse installation uses the exact same 2Wire router, but either it defaults to WPA security, or the tech set it up that way without asking me. WPA is preferable anyway, as it is the most secure, and I had my network set up on WPA with my ZOOM X6 when we had AT&T DSL.

The problem is that the Linksys unit is old/obsolete enough that it defaults to WEP or no security, and in fact the setup program and utilities on the CD that came with the refurb. unit I recently bought are way outdated compared to the current downloads available on their support site, and don't even offer WPA as an option.

If your U-verse router is configured for WPA, as is most likely, then you have to get your Linksys unit configured for WPA security before it can be properly "seen" on the network by your computers. This means either downloading the latest setup/driver programs from Linksys's support website and burning a fresh setup CD, or getting to the Web-interface of the unit and setting it there (I could not even get to the web-interface because of my firewall and other security). Only then can you set the unit to use WPA security with the same key/passphrase as your U-verse router and your computer(s).

I'd advise downloading the latest stuff in any case. I ended up downloading the latest firmware, upgrading it on the unit using the Bi-Admin util on the setup CD, setting up the unit using the web-interface (be patient, because sometimes the page loads can be very slow when it is reading or writing settings). I have never been able to access the web-interface from my laptop, which is probably the most secure on our network. I was only able to get things working when I accessed it from an old PC we rarely use, and it is only running Windoze (XP) Firewall for security. The print server had to be Ethernet connected to the router while doing the configuration to make it work.

I am wondering if anyone were able to reset the button located at the back of the Linksys WPSM54G. Before I switched with AT&T-Uverse I am using the Linksys Wireles Router that was connected to a DSL modem. When I connect the network cable from the At&T-Uverse wireless router, my Epson CX4800 printed out an info about the router and it was for my old connection so I pressed the reset button twice until the printer print out the info of the AT&T-Uverse wireless router. Then I run the Linksys WPSM54G Print Server Set Up, I used the 10 digets Wireless Network Key located on the side of the U-verse router. It works and it scans with out problems. By the way my OS was Windows7 Ultimate 32.

So, both computers are on the lan segment of 2wire? How many lan ports on 2 wire? Can you do ipconfig from the command line on both computers to see what the addresses are? In most cases, the first 3 octets xxx.yyy.zzz.### should be the same. If not, then 2wire is configured for vlan and the computers are actually on different lan segments & cannot communicate with each other.
Another thing you can do to troubleshoot is to ping each other's address.
You have to first establish there is communication between the 2 systems before troubleshooting further. Otherwise, you could be wasting a lot of time.

You once have to check once that which operating system you are using and check the DHCP and firewall Settings too. You may also check Linksys router support here you get more about Routers. Cannot see WPSM54G wireless router after configuring it correctly.

It's pretty sad. This device doesn't support Mac and apparently it doesn't support Windows either! I expect a lot more from Linksys. It seems like this is a common problem yet they offer no clear solution on their web site. Do you think maybe Linksys is going out of business and isn't going to support their products anymore?
