Our 50v500 Hitachi tv has recently been just going blank (black) after it has been on for an hour, sometimes it takes 4 hours. and sometimes it can be on for 6 hours and never turn off. after a few minutes it can be turned back on and be just fine. When the TV is on and working the color and resolution is perfect. It just seems like it gets hot and turns off. Or it gets a signal to turn off? We have had it happen while on cable, and satillite. No consistency to the problem.

It sounds like a heat problem, i think you are going to have to call out service engineer to read the error codes.
Could be power supply or the control board.

Maybe you need to unplug the t.v. for a few hours and then reset the t.v. if that doesn't help maybe you should purchase another t.v .there are thrift shops that sell different makes and models of tv's for dirt cheap.
I have the same tv and the same problem, but my yellow is a cloud around the outside of the screen. My tv was recently moved, and a repair shop told me that sometimes in a move these tvs light engine takes a shock and causes a yellow "band" on the screen. I am hearing that these light engines are not cheap either. Hope this helps you.
I have one of these units, if the light is blinking and no picture as you have stated then you will need to replace the bulb in the unit. it is contained in the front of the unit behind the front panel on the right, you would remove the front panel after unplugging the unit, remove the single screw and pull out the box. replace it and then reverse the proces. the bulbs can be obtained for about $130.00 to $200.00 depending on where you get it from. Shop around.
This is known to happen. You could let it cool down for an hour. If it still persists, then it will need to be fixed. You can also try unplugging the tv set for at least 4 hours to do a "hard reset"
Sounds like the light engine. They are having major problems with it, but Hitachi is replacing the part for free, with you paying for the installation. Need to call Hitachi customer relations.
