My playstation 3 is hooked up but the tv screen is fuzzy even the menue screen for it won't come on how can I tell if its on tv or hdmi

First, make sure your TV is on the appropriate input for the plugged in HDMI cable. Once this is completed, turn your ps3 on. If the screen comes on and is black, turn the ps3 to standby (red light is on) and hold the front power button until the console beeps a second time. This will usually force the ps3 to recognize the hdmi input and will bring up the menu to configure the AV settings.

press the menu and select picture settings and select the 16:9 aspect ratio to make a full screen.

Since I don't know if this has worked for you before I can only give you advice. I'll do my very best to help you in whatever way I can.

If it's a new system I need to know how you have it hooked up. I'll start by having you troubleshoot some things:

If you want it hooked up through HDMI connection you'll need to hook up both the composite (Red White & Yellow) cord that came with it; along with the HDMI cord.

Turn your console on and set your TV input to whichever input the composite cable is hooked into.

Assuming you have picture:

Go to your settings and select Display Options. At the next menu, you'll want to switch it from composite to HDMI. Your screen will go blank.

Set your TV to whichever HDMI input you have it hooked to and you should see a display. Confirm if necessary.

If you still have no picutre:

What I would initially do then is make sure the system is off, turn your TV input to the correct video settings for the composite, and when you turn it on, hold your finger on the power button for a few seconds after it's on to set the default picture display.

You should have a picture now. If not, it could be your TV. Try these same steps on another TV.

my ps3 just switched from a component tv to hdmi but the screen is fuzzy and off color and i've tried reseting the system but it's not working. help?

You have to use the scart connector for on screen menu settings. Go to the video option and enable HDMI and/or match resolution output to your set.
You did not mention the model of the TV so here is another scenario,
Just because the TV is 1 year old doesn't mean that it is a 1080p capable, you could have set the HDMI resolution settings to 1080p and you will not get any picture if your set cannot process the information.

I posted to your problem with a similar one. I was able to get my PS3 to work by:

1.) Powering down both the PS3 and ViewSonic LCD
2.) Unplugging the power cables to both PS3 and LCD
3.) Waiting at least 10 or more seconds
4.) Plugging in the power cables to both PS3 and LCD
5.) Turning on the ViewSonic LCD
6.) Turning on the PS3 and holding down the power button until the beep

After this sequence I heard the bootup audio and the menu appeared on the screen- which detected the HDMI connection to my LCD.

Very odd.. I've had my PS3 in the same place for months and just today this happened.

Have both the AV cables and hdmi cables hooked up from the tv to the ps3. On the TV Menu goto the av station which is different from the HDMi station...From the ps3 menu screen gotot settings then to video and audio and select hdmi then back to the tv menu and select the hdmi station and the ps3 main menu should be seen and you are all set

It would be better if you went diretly threw a video source on the TV. Rn the wires from the PS3 to the tv and then select the source that it is connected to

Did you go into your ps3 video setting menu and enable HDMI output and test your tv for settings of HDMI in the menu?

if ur setting up the HDMI cable dont check all the resulusions just check the 1080i coz 1080p is to high for your TV thats why you have that blank screen for 30 sec.
