I have a very old Maxtor external 200 GB hard drive. I can not find the power adapter for it. On the label, a part of it rads 12V 2A - does that's mean I need to look for a 12 volt, 2 amp power adapter?

Depending on the power adapter, you might be able to pickup one at Radio Shack..
If it is a single pin plug, check near the power adapter jack to see if it shows you polarity of the
center pin, which will either be "+" or "-" Take this information to your local Radio Shack along
with the voltage and amperage requirements

Broken power supply

You will want a 12v 2A DC adapter and you will need to get the end fitted (RadioShack can do this for you).

Where I went they only had a 1.5A adapter and it does work, but it sometimes "clicks" a few times before starting up. It's probably bad for the drive so I highly recommend getting a 2A adapter if you can.
