I have been trying to install XP, the 64 bit version with SP2, as a secondary boot option on my son's Asus G73 and running into problems. I had to go into the bios and change the SATA mode setting from ACHI to IDE. When the installation of XP started copying files it was unable to copy the wind64.chm and the wind_64.chq files. If I leave the IDE mode turned on in the BIOS XP boots and seems to work fine, until I try to shut the computer off. It freezes on the "Windows is shutting down" screen. If I switch the setting in the BIOS to ACHI mode XP tries to start, I am not given the option as to which O/S I want to boot into, but opens the page to boot into safe mode . When I tell it to boot into safe mode the same screen re-appears, this loop continues untill I power down. I tried removing the hard drive that XP was installed to and Windows 7 booted up without a problem. I am at a loss as to new ideas to solve this problem and hope to get a few suggestions. Thank You

I think your problems are at least two fold. Firstly the number of characters that can be used in XP as file names is far less than Win7 plus you probably have a drivers issue.
Hope this helps but don't hold your breath as you need SP3 to be able to get any support from Microsoft.

Always get your drivers from the manufacturer of your Laptop, Notebook or Desktop.

If you were to log on to the manufacturer's web site, usually one is able to download if available, by model number, All available Driver downloads as required.

If the driver is not available, perhaps your manufacturer does not support the OS you are installing.

This is the best way of ensuring up to date drivers for your system and they are free of charge!

There are no XP drivers to be found with Microsoft as XP is no longer supported.

Some manufacturers may have a limited number of Drivers still listed.

I hope this helps.

Kb2538242/will not install

for 32 bit or 64 bit system
  • There's no SP3 for the 64-bit version of Windows XP. If you're running the 64-bit version of Windows XP with SP2, you have the latest service pack and will continue to be eligible for support and receive updates until April 8, 2014. To find out what version you're running, see Is my PC running the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Windows?

  • you need to have other service packs installed before sp3 can be installed

I have windows xp. The game I am trying to install requires 64 bit windows version

OK, so what's your question? If you don't have 64-bit XP and you want to know how to install the game, you can't. As it says, it needs 64-bit XP, and there isn't any way to make it run otherwise. Your only option is to install the necessary operating system.

    Can i convert a 32 bit to a 64 bit

You can use the Upgrade option during Windows 7 installation, which preserves your files, settings, and programs, only if you're currently running a 32-bit version of Windows Vista and you want to upgrade to the 32-bit version of Windows 7. Similarly, if you are running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista, you can only perform an upgrade to a 64-bit version of Windows 7. For more information, go to Upgrading to Windows 7: frequently asked questions on the Windows website.
If you want to move from a 32-bit version of Windows to a 64-bit version of Windows 7 or vice versa, you'll need to back up your files and choose the Custom option during Windows 7 installation. Then, you'll need to restore your files and reinstall your programs. For more information about performing a custom installation, see Installing and reinstalling Windows 7‍.

    • To install a 64-bit version of Windows 7 on a computer running a 32-bit version of Windows, you'll need to start, or boot, your computer using a 64-bit Windows 7 installation disc or files.
    • If you start your computer using a 64-bit Windows 7 installation disc or files, but your computer isn't capable of running a 64-bit version of Windows, you'll see a Windows Boot Manager error. You'll need to use a 32-bit Windows 7 installation disc or files instead.
    • Windows Easy Transfer can't transfer files from a 64-bit version of Windows to a 32-bit version of Windows. If you're running a 64-bit version of Windows Vista but you plan to install a 32-bit version of Windows 7, you can move your files to an external location manually or use Backup and Restore in Windows Vista. Remove/delete "torrentsworld.net" remnant files from the desktop

Hey guys, someone finally solved this annoyance.

In the command prompt, from the directory that the "undeleteable" file is stuck in, try this command:

del [insert start of filename here]* <---wildcard

The trick was that the file ends with a space which makes it hard for windows to deal with for some reason. Try this, it definitely works. I was stuck with one of those [Torrentsworld.net] files and...

    del [Torrentsworld.net]*

    ...worked for me!!!

VGA Driver Not Found for Asus X95GL WinXP 2002 Pro SP2

I think perhaps that should be X59GL.

The GL suffix suggests that the graphics chip is made by nVidia.

Please try downloading the GeForce for Notebooks driver for your relevant Operating System. You did not mention whether you run Windows XP, Windows Vista, or whether it is 32 bit or 64 bit - you need to know this.

If you check the System Properties in Control Panel, you should find this information.

Here is the driver download page:

I hope this solves your issue.

Sorry, no, you cannot 'convert' the 64 bit system to the 32 bit one. You
have a few options. All of them are coloured by the fact that the OEM
license gives you the right to use just the version you originally
    received.

    1. Remove the 64 bit version and install the 32 bit. To do this, you
might be able to arrange with the original source to get the 32 bit OEM
version. Alternate, purchase the 32 bit license of the retail version.

If the 64 bit version runs correctly (all the devices/peripherals work
correctly) and the issue is program compatibility:
    2. Install the 32 bit in a dual boot arrangement. A Google search will
yield links to various sites with the instructions for doing that. Do
note that you should get the method for installing the 32 bit after the
    64 bit
    system.

Since you have an OEM version, your first point of contact would be
    whoever you got it.

MP210 driver does not work with ASUS LAPTOP WITH Vista

On Canon's support page for this printer PM210 Support there are 3 different driver files available. One is for XP and Vista 32-bit systems, one for XP 64-bit systems, and one for Vista 64-bit systems. If you know what system you have select it in the drop down menu and download and install it.

Once installed Asus A8N SLi will not boot up in Vista 64 bit

Make sure that you have the lastest Firmware installed in your BIOS.

Also run Windows Vista Upgrade Wizard before installing Vista to check for compatability.
