When the compressor turns off there is a loud banging sound. This does not happen all the time but it is happening more often now. We had someone come out but he said he didn't know what was causing it (the banging didn't occur in the half hour he was here). Everything was cleaned (didn't need much) but it still is banging.

Where is the noise coming from? The front, back, top, or bottom? Is it a bump, thump, bang, clang, or rattle? Does the sound happen at regular intervals or randomly? It could be the compressor bushings going bad, causing the compressor to bang around.
Good day, If it makes the clunk or banging noise when the compressor is shutting off, then yes, internal spring or springs inside the compressor have broken. Only solution to that problem is a new compressor. P.S. these things can run a long time with this condition, but ultimately .....
Sounds like a compressor needs to be replaced. You will need a service tech to make sure of it. Sometimes the compressor can work for a long time that way. Check your warranty. Usually compressors will have longer warranty on it.
The banging noise usually occurs when the internal mounting springs are weak. You cannot get to them, they are internal. This causes a banging noise when the fridge comes on or switches off. It can also happen when the starter relay on the compressor makes a bad connection and therefore the compressor does not get immediate good power causing a stutter.
Check the compressor mounts. They are usually springs mounted with rubber. If they are two loose the compessor wil hit some other metal part when starting up. Shakle it and see what it is hitting. Ajust accordingly.
if its a loud banging noise when the unit kicks off then broken spring in compressor will have to replace compressor check your 2-5th year warrenty in your owners manuel
some popping noise is normal but if it is banging when it stops it needs a new compressor.what has happened is one or more motor mount is broken or weak it could run like this for months or years but it is annoying! if its warranty they have to replace it.
Bed sheets or comforters will often get out of balance in the spin cycle or during the rinse cycle. Throw some towels in there next time at least 5 big ones. They are engineered to take a little of this banging, it should only happen once in a while.
