Check to see if you have a Li-ion battery in the camera. Li-ion batteries have a safety feature built in to shut the camera down if the battery voltage falls too low. Put new batteries in and try it.

SOURCE: No power to my new Kodak - Series 3 EasyShare Dock for Select Kodak EasyShare Digital Cameras

Hey ditzydiana,
If you just purchased the camera and you are already having problems with it I would not try to troubleshoot the problem I would exchange it for a new one. If you purchased the camera from a Best Buy™ store the return/exchange period on the camera is 14 days. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

After putting new batteries in my kodak easyshare z1285 camera it will not take pictures what could be the problem I have always had good luck with this camera

I would make sure that you haven't reversed the positive and negative terminals on the batteries try switching them from how you have them in now. If it takes a rechargeable battery try matching up the contacts with the contact leads in the battery housing or perhaps you have put the battery in upside down.

Or maybe the new batteries aren't new and you need to find some others to try.
