My Kenmore Microwave Model # 721 63683300, manufactured in December 2002, gives me an error code of "F-9" after running, or at least the fan runs, for 30 seconds. It also doesn't heat now. It was fine just an hour ago. The door latch seems to be fine - F9 fault codes of other manufactures seem to be related to the door latch. Any advice? [email protected]

The model you have it listed under does not have any f codes. But I have run into this before so I think I know what you have. Double check the primary switch, this the top switch. You should have a white and/or yellow wire on the terminal marked NO and a blue and/or pink wire on the terminal marked C.

The F9 code is an inverter failure code. The tech manual gives next to nothing about trouble shooting for it. It basicly says replace inverter, if that doesn't fix the problem, replace control. However, since you also have no turntable operation this tells me there probably is a problem with the primary switch because the inverter and turntable both go to neutral through this switch and nothing else.  If you have a volt/ohm meter, you should have continuity through this switch when the door is closed and no continuity when it is open.

This is usually inverter trouble, but it may be the magnetron, controller, wiring, etc.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

To find helpful exploded view diagrams and get part numbers, you can just enter your full model number at the Sears parts site.
