This is normal, the compressor is spun by the fan belt, and when everything equalizes the pulley stops moving. This repeats over and over again.

My 1998 sebring 6cyl makes a metal on metal noise on the side of my engine by the belts i tried greaseing all the pullys and i used belt noise sparay but it becomes lower and then it becomes higher ???...

sounds to me from the brief description like you have either a water pump rattling, or a timing chain coming slack. Is the noise coming from the alternator? Never grease pulleys, ever. also the stop squeak spray is bad for your belts. Don't know why they even sell it. If you listen carefully you may be able to pin point the rattle. Is this a tick tick tick, or a rattle rattle rattle? Does sound like a water pump rattle or timing chain slap though. Hope this helps

2.0 Liter, 2003 Rav4. Car had a ticking noise, Toyota replaced serptine belt and still makes ticking noise. Toyota says its lower engine rod bearings. I used stethascope and noise seems to be coming from...

big end bearings( lower engine rod bearings to confuse) knock at idle and get louder with rpm
if the noise changes with rpm and you are hearing it near the ac compressor then it could be the ac pulley bearing
test if it is the compressor by listening and then turning the ac off the pulley will still spin but the compressor stops
if the noise remains , replace the pulley bearings

I have a 2002 Ford taurus the air condition works good its very cold but the pully on the AC compressor is loose and making loud screaching noises. Is there a way to tighten the pully?

The pulley has no adjustment, if it is loose you have a bearing problem. If it only makes noise with the a/c on, I would suspect a clutch or compressor problem. Hope this helps, TJ

Can someone please help me know how to open (un-screw) the dashboard of Maruti Alto car? (I am getting some constant noice from Dashboard side. Sounds like something inside is loose now, and that keep...

There are several models of the ALTO and the dash varies from one model to another.
You need to look for two mounting screws at the extreme ends , the fittings of the AC, system needs to be checked.
But to look for noise you can use a good inspection lamp to probe within , start or run the car with help as you observe and listen to find the noise. It can be a loose screw which can be taken out using a magnet or maybe if the speedo cable is loose.( old model)

My 2001 cavalier shuts off when i turn on the AC

it's probably a bad compressor, might be locked up and when the clutch engages, the pully stops spinning causing the squealing noise and extra resistance when trying to start -- you might be ruining your serpentine belt while this is going on, might want to check the condition of that as well

My kia spectra was making a loud squeeling noise and it has stopped but now my Air conditioner will not blow cold air ( only blowing warm to room temp. air)...is it my fan belt?

it sounds belt related. i am not sure if this vehicle has a seperate belt for the ac compressor, but if so, it sounds possible that the compressor seized and tore the belt off. have a look

Knocking noise from AC compressor

I would replace the compressor, if it seizes up, the belt will keep turning over the pully and burn then snap

Whining noice while driving down the road.

It might be your AC compressor. When it makes this sound, turn the AC blower to O or OFF and see if it stops the noise. If it does, then see your local dealer or respected auto AC specialist.
