We are trying to secure the wireless router. On the install disk it asks for the internet account name and password. Our internet provider states we do not have a name or password for the system and that the connection is dynamic and not static. We keep getting an error message stating invalid internet account information.

If you lose or forget your password, you can usually get it from your modem or your Internet service provider.

1 Look on your modem. This is the box that your Internet service provider gave you when your Internet service was installed. Some Internet Service providers put your wireless password directly on the box along with your user-name. A modem may or may not be separate from a wireless router, which sends out the wireless signals. If you have two boxes and are unsure which is which, look at both.

2 Call your Internet service provider if you cannot find a password on the modem. You can also try online customer service through your service provider's website if you are able to get Internet access apart from your wireless connection.

3 Talk to a customer service representive and ask to retrieve your password. You may be required to change it. Be prepared to provide security information that the service provider has on file, such as your Social Security number, phone number, address or another personal security question.

You can also configure it with below method.
Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. If you are still not able to access router with above ip then you need to RESET it for that press RESET button for 10 seconds it is in back side of router then all settings defaults..Then you can access it with above method. Then click on WAN settings set it as your internet service provider settings enable DHCP Then click on wireless and enable it. . Then click on wireless->wireless security->WEP security there is code password note down it or enter new password then save setting s and restart router. then you can connect wireless with new password. Please connect the Netgear Router to your Laptop with a Ethernet cable.
In order to connect Netgear Router to your Laptop please follow these steps:
STEP 1 : If you look at back of router there are 4 LAN ports that are together and 1 WAN or Internet port which is alone. Connect the Internet cable ( provided by your Internet Service Provider) to WAN or Internet port of router .
Now take another Ethernet cable and connect one end of the cable to any one of 4 LAN ports and connect the second end to your laptop. Now please turn on the router.
STEP 2: You can see Power, Internet, Wireless and one LAN port light there on the router. Now come to computer and try to open the router login page.
In order to open the router page , you need to open your Internet Explorer and type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.Now it will ask for router login information .
Username = admin Password = password
If it doesn't work please try to check the IP address of your computer ( In order to check the IP address of computer, Click on START menu , goto RUN and in RUN Window please type cmd. A black window pops up under this please type IPCONFIG and check the ETHERNET adapter IP address.
Now try to open the router page using this IP address.
STEP 3: Now on the router page you can see number of option on the left side. In order to change or secure the router for wireless connection please click on WIRELESS SETTING option under BASIC SETTING.
Under the SSID : type the name for your wireless network ( of your choice) CHANNEL : it should be 11 or 6 . Security : select WPA-PSK and under key please type any password of your choice ( it must be 8 characters atleast)
Please save the setting.
STEP 4: Now unplug the Ethernet cable from your laptop. Under the wireless networks , you can find your wireless network name . Just select it and click connect on. It will ask for security key or network key please type the same password that you have created for wireless setting.
Now it will connect you to your wireless network that is secured now.

the account name on the contract could be your email adress and the password you gave the internet provider to connect the internet tthrough your modem

Then it ask for user name and password.
Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank.
Then you can see configuration page of router.
Click on WAN settings and set those settings as your internet service provider settings.
Enable DHCP if you want to get ip from router.
Click on wireless settings enable wireless then enable WEP Security then add WEP code .It isyour password to connect wi fi.Then save settings and restart router.
Then you can connect your wi fi network with that code.

try this combination then go to the wireless in the security option is there in that wireless password is there as encryption like that in the wep or wpa or wpa2/psk like the option is there then change it
