Emachines w6409 will not accept 2 1 GB memory sticks. One stick at a time will work fine and both sticks show as good when used seperately in either slot, but when I add the second stick, the computer will not come up when started. The memory is the right type, and the motherboard is supposed to be able to handle up to 2 GB of memory.

SOURCE: Cant install full 2GB of memory in my emachines t3990

try removing the cmos battery and put it again and booting up.. since you have bought same kind of ram i dont think it could be a problem.also check for the jumpers in *********** board where you can reset your bios. be sure to read *********** boards manual before this

SOURCE: I have an emachines W6409.

My guess would be that one of the components can not support 2GB's of RAM. Did you try both sticks of RAM one at a time?

I recently purchased Two PNY 1Gb ram to upgrade from original 512mb. When I put both 1Gb ram in the slots, the computer will not boot up. When I take one out and put the original 512 back in with the other...

I don't know your specific model, but some of the Emachines had some memory directly on the motherboard. With the 1Gb and 512Mb sticks installed, boot the machine and report how much memory the system sees. Perhaps the onboard memory is causing you to exceed the 2Gb limit.

Please post the memory size you get here with the above sticks.

Thanks,

Just installed 2 2GB cards (Corsair VS2GB800D2) to replace the 1 1GB card in my emachines EL1200 series. Computer will not boot. replaced the old card and it booted right up.

Will it boot with only ONE of the 2GB memory-sticks installed?
Will it boot with ONE of the 2GB memory-sticks AND one of the 1GB memory-sticks?

Look closely at the 1GB memory-sticks.
Does the label show 'DDR266' or 'DDR333' or 'DDR400' or 'PC2100' or 'PC2700' or 'PC3200' ?
Do the 2GB memory-sticks have _identical_ information?
It's definitely _not_ acceptable to have "slower" RAM (smaller numbers) in the new RAM,
but it _might_ be acceptable to have "faster" RAM (larger numbers).

I have an emachine T5026. Emachine tech swears this machine only supports pc2700 ram but the stickers on the factory installed ram says pc3200 256mb x 2 so i bought 2 memory masters pc3200 1gb x 2 sticks....

PC3200 is backwards compatible with PC2700. Meaning you can install PC3200 into your motherboard but it won't run any faster than would PC2700, however it will not cause any harm and should work fine.

Emachine's would say you need PC2700 most likely because they're trying to sell you some.

One of your new memory modules or the memory slots on your computer may be defective. I recommend installing a single stick of memory and booting your system. If it is successful then shut it down, disconnect the power and install another stick. Boot again and keep doing so and by process of elimination identify the bad memory stick or the bad memory slot.

This is the "likely" cause and isn't too uncommon.

Good luck.

No you don't have to install a 64 bit OS. Only if you install over 3 gigs you MUST install a 64 bit operating system. 800MHZ is fine it will just back down to 667MHZ. your 32bit windows OS will see up to 3 gigs (minus graphics card memory). SO 2 gigs will work fine. Install one stick at a time and check in the OS and bios to make sure each stick works. I would say you possibly have a dead ram stick.

Maximum Memory Stick size I can put into my Sony DSC-N1

Unfortunately, there is no way to change the internal card reader in the camera to accept higher density memory cards. You can find the memory stick compatibility list here: https://esupport.sony.com/perl/support-info.pl?&info_id=12 . Scroll down to the Cybershot N Series camera list. The maximum capacity memory stick is 4 GB memory stick pro or M2 Memory stick Pro. For the Memory Stick Duo, it looks like those have a maximum capacity of 2 GB.

I hope this helps.

Memory stick

Up to 1 or 2 GB memory works fine in this model. 4GB or higher memory stick slower the data shifting process.
