Brother MFC 8460 N, all in one copier. Loud clicking noise (from tray area) when trying to make a copy, it will not do a copy now, says to load paper - tray has fresh, higher quality paper in it. Is this somehow the little gears on the side of the tray? Please advise.

Make sure the stopper in the paper tray is snug against the paper. sounds like the paper is not properly in place and the tires are making the noise.
Could be it's trying to lift the tray and it can't, determine why; something stuck, out of place,

Whats the problem? Lots of printer trays are like that. The printer, when powered on, will lift that. Look on the side of the tray there is a mechanism that makes contact with a gear inside the printer.

When I go to print or copy the machine makes a loud clicking noise and then says paper jam. Brother MFC - 8460 N

Hello,
The loud clicking noise is either the toner cartridge or the paper feed. If the jam occurs in the drum and toner cartridge then I recommend changing the toner.
If the paper is not being fed at all then you need to have the paper feed kit replaced.
Thanks,
Pat

My MFC8460N Brother won't print. It makes this

Gears on the tray is broken, or the gears that lift the tray. (thus the clicking noise). And the no paper is due to the actuators underneath not being activated because of the non lift.

Problems printing to Brother MFC 8660DN printer

Pull the paper tray, likley a small black lever to the left of the roller called the edge actuator is dislodged and hanging down. When in position the actuator should easily push up and appear flat next to the roller.

Clicking noise with MFC-8640D

Make sure that the paper guides in your paper tray are not holding the paper too tight against the front of the tray, there should be about 1/16 inch play so that the paper can be lifted to the roller easily. Also take out your toner and drum and turn it on, if the grinding noise is gone you may need a new toner, some refilled toners are too tight to turn properly.
