The (-4437) is not a familiar Canon error to me. It's probably generated by your scanning software as a generic message for a scanner not ready condition. If the light on the top of the scanner is blinking, the scanner needs service. If not, check the cable to the computer for solid connection or bends/breaks. You can also try running the Capture Perfect program that was bundled with the scanner to see if the problem still occurs and gives you a more specific error message.

This may mean that something is using it or that something is interfering with it. Try turning everything off, your computer AND your scanner. Wait a minute or two and then turn your scanner on first and the turn your computer back on. When your computer boots back up don't open anything except the scanner. If your still getting the message then there is something else (another attached peripheral) that may be interfering with the scanner.

Uninstall all drivers and scanning software. Switch off the comp and Scanner, restart the scanner first and then the computer, reinstall drivers and scanning software. Pls run scandisk on the Computer and ensure the OS is okay.

Please try USB connectivity instead of SCSI. It is lot easier and unlike SCSI, there is no sequencing required. (With SCSI, you need to start the device before you start the Computer). You can switch on the scanner when you want!
