as shop will need to know what standards are used VGA or HDMI ?
Hi , just access the monitor on-screen display (OSD) menu and ensure Monitor input mode is configured for HDMI ( Asus speak the " desired input source" ) - Input select is accessed under tv with arrow icon : change from vga to hdmi
First of, a little bit of explanation.
VGA = analogue
HDMI = digital
The answer seems to be in your question.
it reads "VGA to HDMI". These cables or adapters doesn't work the other way around. I am guessing your cable can only support vga output to HDMI input. And your setup is HDMI output from your computer to vga input to your monitor.
Solution:
Try and find HDMI to VGA cable or adapter. This is expensive.
If your computer has a vga output, use this with vga to vga. You won't get a better resolution by using HDMI to vga.
Or are you stuck with only HDMI output?
There are adapters for USB to VGA too. This could be less expensive. I have one for my friends Apple Air. I am not a "i" fan so I do not have much experience on Apple.
Any contemporary monitor is able to switch analog/digital mode automatically if connection from signal source to monitor is set up properly.
Connect digital output from your graphic card to DVI input of the monitor. Disconnect any other signal cables from monitor and switch on both devices (PC & monitor). Wait a while. Monitor checks its inputs and a activates digital DVI, because it is only one active input on it.
If none picture excluding error message of monitor is displayed, go through these steps: 1) Check whether your monitor is set for automatic input selection. If monitor buttons have no response try to use analog input to activate screen (any picture, desktop background...) and then get monitor menu access by pressing menu button.
2) Find out what connector type has your graphics card in PC. Possibilities are: DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort and some their options. See Wikipedia for connector look if you are not sure. Remember that blue D-SUB (VGA) connectors are analogue and you cannot activate digital mode through analog VGA cable.
3) Use appropriate cable to connect monitor to PC. Example: Your PC has HDMI output. Use HDMi-to-DVI cable. Your monitor input is DVI and common DVI-DVI cable is not suitable in case you have PC with the HDMI. Note that DVI-to-DVI, DisplayPort-to-DVI etc. cables are available. You must buy right one.
Be aware that "Auto" button is inactive in digital mode of monitor.
The HDMI surrounded by orange is an ouput but if you've got and additional Video Card then this build in HDMI would normally be deactivated.
Sometimes the problem relates to the screen resolution you've got your computer set to as this needs to match your Monitors HDMI Input i.e.1280x720 or 1920x1080 as detailed at the link below.
If it like my monitor, same hookups as yours, then when you want to use the hdmi port you need to disconnect the dvi cable. The monitor cannot read from hdmi & dvi when both are connected, Try this & see if your PS3 works. Good luck.
